Schools offer cold hard cash

They’re calling it a “Learn and Earn” program.

A school in Georgia is offering cash to students who attend free after school tutoring in math and science.

The privately funded initiative has drawn both praise and fire, and locally one school official sounded off about the idea this week.

“That’s a scary though to me that we’re actually paying our students for grades,” said Todd Farler, member of the Madison Local Schools Board of Education.

“I’m glad to say that we’re not paying our students for grades,” he said at the board’s meeting this week.

What do you think about offering cash to students?

Is this what the teachers are teaching. It should be learn then earn. People are alwats looking for a handout. Teachers should stick to teaching reading, writing and arithmatic. If you can’t get the students to learn then you are NOT doing your job. What kind of lesson are you teaching. Shame on you!!!

Um, “taxpayer”? Just a quick comment for you — if you’re going to complain about public education, it MIGHT be a good idea to proofread your own comments before posting them. Your first and next-to-last sentences need question marks, and you misspelled “always” as “alwats” and “arithmetic” as “arithmatic”. Things like that tend to diminish the effectiveness of your criticism that “If you can’t get the students to learn then you are NOT doing your job.”
