Family fight gets ugly in Kettering
KETTERING (May 24) — Officers responded to the 1000 block of Dexter Avenue on a report of family trouble and could hear two men and two women arguing in the basement. One man yelled, “If the police … show up, you’re not gonna go upstairs under your own power.” A woman asked, “Why?” The same man replied, “I’ll break both your legs. If I go to jail it’ll be for a good reason.” Another officer at the front door saw a man pretending to be asleep. A few minutes later, an older man and woman came to the door and said nothing was going on. The officers said they weren’t leaving until they checked on the younger woman in the basement, but the man did not cooperate and was shot with an electronic stun gun. The younger woman had a minor injury under her left eye. The officers charged the older man with obstructing official business and resisting arrest. The younger man, the victim’s boyfriend, was charged with menacing, obstructing official business, assault on a police officer and disruption of public services. The officers cited older woman for obstructing official business. The victim did to pursue charges additional against her boyfriend.

Just to clarify… basements DO have windows. Any chance, doubtin, that this is how they were heard? A person saying “I’ll go to jail for a reason” is a significant indicator of further violence - and a high lethality indicator. Good job, Kettering police, for holding these folks accountable. My prayers go to the young lady and her ability to seek support from healthy people in her life or from supportive services. Shame on any of you who belittle or minimize the significance of this incident and the potential for future violence.By ARBRNINF
