Arrest of boisterous man bring peace to streets, and his brother
DAYTON April 2 An officer responded to Hart Street after a Hoveround wheelchair was found on the street. The officer was speaking to a citizen about the wheelchair when he observed two males and a female yelling in front of a residence. The officer then saw the males act as if they were about to fight. The officer approached and told them to go home. One male complied while the other, the subject, tried explaining that it was the other male’s fault. The subject was swaying and smelled of alcohol. He was told there would be no fighting and to sleep it off. The subject advised he was a city employee and the officer told him that was more reason to go inside. The subject continued arguing with the officer, stating that he was wasting taxpayer money. The subject also said he paid the officer’s salary. The subject was told several times to go inside and that his noncompliance wasn’t worth going to jail and possibly losing his job over. The subject stated, “I’m going inside but I’m not staying inside.” The officer pointed out that the subject had a good job, that times were hard and that he should comply. The subject did go inside his residence. The officer went to finish his business regarding the found wheelchair. While it was being loaded into a truck, the subject came back outside and staggered across the street. He was again warned. The subject stated, “I don’t care about going to jail. I got rights.” He also said he was there to see the other officer on-scene. The subject was then arrested for disorderly conduct and placed in a police cruiser. While gathering witness information, the officer encountered the subject’s brother, who stated, “Thank you.” The officer asked for what and the brother said, “because tonight I will be able to watch television in peace.”
