Student busted trying to buy lunch with fake cash

LOST CREEK TWP., Miami County — March 11: A student at Miami East Schools, 3825 North Ohio 589, was taken into custody after trying to pay for his school lunch with a fake $20 bill. The 16-year-old said he used his scanner at home to make two of the bills. The boy’s mother said when he showed her the bills, she told him to tear them up. He was charged in juvenile court with delinquency by reason of forgery.

And the mother didn’t take the bills away and tear them up? Who trusts a 16 year to tear up fake money that they made when being told? Three things are certain: 16 year old boys will show their friends the bills, flash them in front girls to look rich and try to spend the money somewhere, but they won’t tear them up when their Mommy tells them to do so. Stupid Mom. Criminal Kid.

Not a criminal kid! Just a teenager making bad choices. Haven’t you ever made an error in judgment or done something you have regretted Big D?

Def not a criminal kid. More like a neglectful mother. I dont see how any mother, or father, can think that their kids will do everything that they say. You were kids once, remember?

Not only would my 16-year-old have lost the fake money; he’d have lost the scanner he produced it on, too. You’re absolutely right, Jeremy; I was 16 once, too.

Ok… so what you are saying is that the child can not be trusted. As a parent I expect my children to do as they are told. If, as in this case, the child neglects to follow direction then further punishment will be forthecoming. The mother not taking the bills does NOT make her a bad parent. Maybe she was trying to give her (nearly and adult) son an opportunity to demonstrate his responsibility. Either way this kid is responsible and the mother has little influence at this point. Yes, there is clearly an issue here, but why are you all so quick to judge the parent?

A lot of scanners won’t let you scan money. The software recognizes it and blocks the scan. This shouldn’t excuse the ute. He should be prosecuted by the Secret Service.

Even at 16, I was fully aware that counterfieting money was a serious crime. If anyone here says they didn’t know that at 16, they are being an enabler and an apologist. Let his age & prior history determine his sentence, but not his guilt. His guilt is obvious.

Sounds to me like Mom an Dad should have bought the little mobster a better scanner/printer.

Who is this kid? Such entrepreneurial skills should be encouraged NOT discouraged. He knows how to make a fast buck…quicker them most his age!

Can’t believe that most of you are quick to blame the child. Yes the mother should have watched him destroy the $, but where did he come up with the idea in the first place? Probably this d^&* media. 24 hrs in juvy should scare him st8 not to try this again. The mother should go back to a inkjet printer. Kids today. UGH

If, at 16, you have nno idea that forgery is a crime; you’re in for a VERY rough life!!

This is so easy to do today! If he was 10 would you all be making such a big deal about it? As moronic as those high school kitchen staffs are I’m surprised anybody noticed.

When I was young and made an “error in judgment” there where consequences for that. They call it punishment and that’s how I knew how serious my error was.

You guys are crazy the 16 year old knew what he was doing, and mama covered for him and herself, i think they should have kept it in the school and delt with it instead of making a big deal of it.

Mom should be smacked for being stupid & not taking the fake bills from the kid & then destroying them. Yes, he knows the difference between right & wrong & as such, the kid should be prosecuted for counterfeiting as an ADULT because HE’S A CRIMINAL! @ 16YO, sure I did stupid things, just not ILLEGAL!

come on people the mother did nothing wrong. if she did take the money he probably would have made more. at 16 he should be mature enough to know right from wrong and if he was going to do something it really wouldnt matter what his mother told him after he made his mind up to do it. bottom line is he was wrong and needs to face the consequences for his intentional actions.

What the article fails to mention is that the forged money was two pieces of paper taped together. It also fails to mention that when the student handed the bill to the cashier, he tried to take it back. This honor roll student evidently meant it as a prank.
