Final: Muskies rally for win

Just too much pressure too often in this one. Miami led or remained tied for the lead for most of this one, but Xavier took the lead on B.J. Raymond’s trey from the wing with 7:24 left to go to take over the game.

Final score…. Xavier 60, Miami 53

Xavier is now 6-0 while Miami drops to 2-3.

Miami will now play at Temple to finish out a six-game season opening road trip, on Dec. 3.

Xavier returns to action that same day when they’ll host Auburn.

Halftime: Miami 27, Xavier 24

Thanks to Michael Bramos’ buzzer beating three-pointer to end the half, the Miami RedHawks withstood the Musketeers’ 13-5 run to hold a slim halftime lead.

Miami took the crowd out of the game early by building as much as an 11-point lead (22-11) with 6:01 left in the first half.

But Xavier’s Derrick Brown got hot late in the game. Brown hit a trey from the right corner to start the rally. He then sandwiched 5-of-6 converted freethrows around teammate B.J. Raymond’s jumper to pull Xavier even at 24-all.

Then Bramos hit his NBA-length three-pointer to give Miami the lead.

More fun to come.

Miami-Xavier

Today’s game between the Miami RedHawks and the Xavier Musketeers is about to start, and the press room is still buzzing about the resignation of Miami football coach Shane Montgomery this morning.

Just spoke with Miami’s Director of Athletics Brad Bates a couple minutes ago. He says his cell phone’s been “buzzing” all day. The search will begin for a new RedHawks football coach imediately.

Well, there’s bands playing out on the court. Time to head on out to courtside for the game itself.

I plan on filing updates at halftime and the end of the game. If anything develops during the game itself — major injury, roof leak, power outage, new coach hired — I’ll run back in here to the press room and file that as well.

Stay tuned. And enjoy the game!
