Finance committee considers admissions tax

The Mason City Council Finance Committee will discuss an admissions tax on such venues as Kings Island and The Beach, on Monday, May 5 at 7 p.m. This issue has arisen several times, but nothing has come of it. Business owners plan to attend the meeting to voice their misgivings. Increased admissions - percentages haven’t been decided - they say will adversely impact other businesses who benefit from the tourists who flood into town. Is a tax reasonable? Mason officials have said the city has to spend extra on police, fire and road improvements because of the entertainment venues. If it is, what percentage would be acceptable?

What a noval idea, impose even more taxes on some businesses while giving tax breaks and abatments to those companies that are also campaign donors to many City Council members. Grooseman should have run as a Dem. We’ll remember this next election cycle.
