Bars welcome back students with contests, specials, beer

It’s back to school time and local bars are opening their doors to returning college students who want to start the school year off with a splash.

Beer Week

A slew of area bars are offering tastings and craft brew specials this week leading up to the 12th annual AleFest Saturday at Carrillon Historical Park. For a list of all events, times and locations, visit daytonbeerweek.com.

One event for beer lovers that didn’t make the list is One Eyed Jacks Magic Hat Party on Friday. Live music will be provided by Media Blackout. Everyone gets free swag with the purchase of a Magic Hat beer and there will be a T-shirt raffle at midnight.

Back to School Bashes

On Friday, South Beach is celebrating the beginning of the school year with drink specials and a Sexy School Girl Contest. Cash and tanning package prizes for the winners courtesy of Solar Tan. Ages 18 and older are welcome and ladies get in free until 11 p.m.

Where: South Beach Nite Club, 729 Lyons Road, Centerville

When: 9 p.m., Friday, Aug. 27

The bite: Ladies free until 11 p.m., call (409) 374-1439 for cover charge information.

On Saturday, reuse that school girl outfit at Vex’s Back-to-School Bash hosted by LA Tan. The first 50 ladies to arrive will receive a free tanning package. Any ladies in costume get in free until midnight. Costume contest prizes include free packages from LA Tan, free bottles of liquor and cash.

If you’d like to do some good for charity before your night of drinking and dancing, LA Tan will be having a $5 car wash during the day Saturday, on Miamisburg-Centerville Road. Part of the proceeds go to breast cancer research.

Bars offering perks to host your fantasy football draft

Football season is almost upon us, which of course means it’s time to draft your 2010 fantasy team. Lots of local sports bars and restaurants want to be the setting for your league’s draft party, and they’re willing to sweeten the deal with food and drink specials.

Spots are filling up fast, so call to register your party ASAP. All of these locations offer free Wi-Fi so you can manage your picks online or look up any last-minute injuries.

London’s calling you to a Bash

British Bash

The Dayton Ballet Barre is throwing its second annual British Bash at the Packard Museum Saturday. It’s a great opportunity to explore the museum, help raise money to support local arts groups and party it up Shakespearean style. Queen Elizabeth I and her Court will perform dances from the era and a short Shakespearean piece.

Jump forward in time and take a ride in a Packard V-12 convertible or check out all the vintage cars on display.

The night will end with a British Invasion raffle and dancing with DJ Zaj. A cash bar and light hors d’oeuvres will be available all night.

Girls Gone Wild

Yep, they’re back. If you want a chance to be on their new reality show searching for the Hottest Girl in America, then head to South Beach on Friday.
