Free sites that help you save

I wrote about these in the newspaper, and thanks to friend Laura Watkins on the heads-up on a lot of these sites that offer you free services and items.

If you have ever thought, “now why can’t I get that for free,” you may be surprised to find that in a lot of cases, you can.

The Internet has given birth to a wave of Web sites offering free help and items to those that need and want them.

Bookmark these Web sites to start saving you money:

  • Freecycle.org: Find a chapter near you to donate your items and put in requests for things you need. Find everything from shoes, toys to cars.
  • Craigslist.org: Check out the Cincinnati and Dayton tabs under the free items tab daily to find out what your neighbors are giving away. Items vary from clothing to furniture and electronics.
  • Titletrader.com: Trade your old CDs, DVDs and books with other people. It’s a great way to find older titles not available in stores.
  • Paperbackswap.com: Donate your old paperback books or take someone else’s on this book swapping Web site.
  • Fullbooks.com: Find full-text versions of books and read them online for free. You search this site by title.
  • Techguy.org: Tech Support Guy offers free help on computer issues for Windows users.
  • 5starsupport.com: Offers free technical support and service as well as tutorials on how to complete your projects on your computer.
  • Mozy.com: Back up your computer online to protect your data like photos and documents for free . You can store up to two gigabytes at no cost.
  • Phonezoo.com: Create and download ringtones and send them to your cell phone for free. The only cost is a text message charge to your phone.
  • Mangolanguages.com: Get started learning up to 12 different languages for free.
  • Askmehelpdesk.com: A question-and-answer community, this Web site gives you advice on any subject.
