Tricks to save you hundreds at the store
Woman’s World magazine asked a panel of shopping experts to give them tips on saving money. They suggested these coupon tricks which can save you hundreds:
Search for coupons at the beginning of the month. Companies often release their best coupons then. Check circulars and couponing Web sites. Many sites limit the amount of coupons available, meaning that a coupon for those Green Giant Steamers you love could be available one day and gone the next. So print early for the savings, not just when the item is on sale, to make sure the coupon is available when you need it. Most cycle in coupons every 30-60 days and allow each coupon to be printed 2 times using the same computer.
Here are some good coupon sites to bookmark:
- Coupons.com
- SmartSource
- RedPlum
- CouponBug
- Pillsbury
- Betty Crocker
- Albertsons SS
- Cool Savings
- Eversave
- Meijer Mealbox - Meijer store coupons
- Target Printable Coupons hosted by Hot Coupon World
Ask for a price match. Many grocery stores will match their competitors prices on sale items that you see in ads. Just ask at customer service. One store that does price match on grocery items is Walmart. Be prepared to wait a long time, however, and remember that many stores do not double coupons. Meijer will price match on general merchandise, but not on all grocery items. Kroger does not price match.
Look for specials with limits. Some stores use this trick to get you to buy more, but more often than not these specials will yield a price per unit that is close to wholesale cost. Many stores will place the price per ounce on the tag, even on sale items, so be sure to check it to make sure you are getting a good deal.
Match these specials with coupons to save even more. For example, last week’s Kroger sale included Quaker Oats granola bars, get $4 off instantly when you buy 4. The limit was one per transaction. I ended up buying 8 boxes in 2 transactions and spent $4 TOTAL by using coupons. Now that’s a good deal!
