Happy Earth Day!

Happy Earth Day!

Today is the 38th annual celebration of the planet we call home, and a day to step back and think about things we can do to preserve and restore our natural resources…

So that’s the official line on Earth Day, but I want to know: what do YOU think about Earth Day?

Is it a time to reflect on accomplishments?

A time to call for more action?

Or something in-between?

Send a post, let us know, then go outside and do something good for the planet.

Shopping bags and recycling

I received this link to a slide show produced by the Pocono Record. Its topic?

Plastic bags.

It’s not new news that disposable plastic bags have an impact on the environment. The word must be getting out, as I am seeing more and more reusable bags around West Chester Twp.

So have you ditched plastic bags for a more durable alternative?

I have seen them sold at the check-out areas of Kroger and Meijer stores in West Chester Twp.; did the bags at the check-outs compel you to make the switch, or did you go with a cloth bag from somewhere else?

I have a tendency to forget about my reusable bags until I’m half way to the store. Have you had any such problems switching to reusable bags?

The wife and I have made the switch, a year ago or so. First it was the cloth bags you mention that are bought at the counter. Problem is/was, most of those are branded, and it would be kind of funny using your Target bag at Kroger. Then we discovered the Envirosack, nylon-like bags that we use everywhere. We keep them in the car so they are always handy - after unloading in the house they get hung on the doorknob so that we remember to take them back to the car each time.
