Happy Earth Day!

Happy Earth Day!

Today is the 38th annual celebration of the planet we call home, and a day to step back and think about things we can do to preserve and restore our natural resources…

So that’s the official line on Earth Day, but I want to know: what do YOU think about Earth Day?

Is it a time to reflect on accomplishments?

A time to call for more action?

Or something in-between?

Send a post, let us know, then go outside and do something good for the planet.

One day to E-Day, and a local “green” business

In case you haven’t noticed, Earth Day is tomorrow. This is the 38th year people have - to varying degrees - celebrated the environment and all things clean and renewable. From my vantage point, though, it seems like this could be one of the more prominent Earth Days. At the very least it seems to be getting more press than in previous years.

So what do you think about Earth Day? Is it effective in getting people to be more environmentally conscious? Are you planning to do anything to observe Earth Day? Post a comment and let us know.

On another topic, I appreciate the response to my call for businesses with an environmental bent. I have several I’ll highlight this week, both here and in the paper, but I wanted to start with a local business: West Chester Twp. based EnergyQue.

EnergyQue provides thermal imaging analysis that can determine a building’s energy efficiency. Their website has a better explanation of the tools they use, but in short, imagine having infra-red vision and using it to find heat leaks around your doors and windows.

Company founder Brent Quebman said about 70 area homeowners and a handful of local businesses have used the service since it was launched in January. He said some of them have used the information to decide what home improvements would give the best increase in home efficiency.

Have you tried any services like EnergyQue to improve your home’s efficiency? Go to their website, then let us know what you think of this local business.

Be kind to our environment. Help pick up trash and recycle.
