Happy Earth Day!

Happy Earth Day!

Today is the 38th annual celebration of the planet we call home, and a day to step back and think about things we can do to preserve and restore our natural resources…

So that’s the official line on Earth Day, but I want to know: what do YOU think about Earth Day?

Is it a time to reflect on accomplishments?

A time to call for more action?

Or something in-between?

Send a post, let us know, then go outside and do something good for the planet.

So far, so good.

I wrote in an earlier post about my novice attempt at growing some of my own veggies this summer. After learning more about where some of my food comes from, I decided it would be more ethical and sustainable to feed myself more directly through my own labors.

I’m missing one thing to go whole hog into gardening - a yard - but I’m hoping some of the seedlings I planted Monday will bear fruit on my south-facing porch.

So far, things are going well. Most of the lettuce, Swiss chard and marigolds I planted are germinating, and I’m still within the window for my tomatoes to start doing something.

There’s a long way to go from the tiny sprouts on my windowsill to the salad bowl, but I have my fingers crossed I’ll at least end with a satisfying, ethical, sustainable snack later this year.

I’ll keep you posted.
