Happy Earth Day!
Happy Earth Day!
Today is the 38th annual celebration of the planet we call home, and a day to step back and think about things we can do to preserve and restore our natural resources…
So that’s the official line on Earth Day, but I want to know: what do YOU think about Earth Day?
Is it a time to reflect on accomplishments?
A time to call for more action?
Or something in-between?
Send a post, let us know, then go outside and do something good for the planet.

A wake up call?
Butler County is a very dirty place.
At least that’s what is suggested by a web site a source directed me to in January. Check it out, especially the graphic rankings comparing us to the rest of Ohio and the U.S. in general.
Scorecard.org’s data only goes up to 2002, so I checked with Uncle Sam’s official resource, the good folks at the EPA. They have their own graphic interface, complete with a scalable map of the area.
Or maybe I should say a not-so-pretty map of the area…
From what I see on the EPA’s map, we’re in the middle of an area where there are many polluters and very little clean water. If one believes the data on scorecard.org, the air isn’t much better than the water.
What to do, what to do?
For starters, I’m posting this blog. Every day, I’ll dig into some tidbit of information on the environment, recycling, pollution and such, and I’ll explore what locals are doing to make our world a little cleaner or our lifestyles a little more sustainable.
Do you think I’m being a Chicken Little? Do you think I’m full of it? Let me know, and we’ll talk about that too.
The point here is not to convert everyone to one extreme way of thinking, or even to define the best course of action to protect our slice of the planet’s resources. My goal is to get the word out, spread information and maybe uncover some tip or idea that helps make someone’s day a little cleaner, a little healthier or a little greener.
It should be a fun ride, though we should probably car-pool; I don’t have to tell you about the price of gas.
