Butler Tech students earn awards

Butler Tech Students Earn Top 10 in America: D. Russel Lee/Butler Tech students from Tom Newman’s Network Systems Tech Prep and Bonnie Graman’s Business Office Education attended the Business Professionals of America National Leadership Conference in Dallas, Texas, in June. Justin Bailey, a Middletown Senior in Network Systems Tech Prep, placed second in the Nation in Network Design.

The Fairfield Butler Tech Business Academy also received outstanding honors. Joe Pater received fourth-place in Entrepreneurship, Morgan Schunn received ninth-place in Banking and Finance, and Charlene Agyemang received 10th in Insurance Concepts. Their advisor was Laurie Mischell.

Butler Tech Students Shine at Skills USA National Finals: At the Skills USA National Finals, 41 of 136 Ohio competitors (30%) medaled with 3 bronze, 16 silver, and 22 gold in the secondary division. There are 372,052 total members nationwide with 5,400 overall national competitors with over 11,000 in attendance at the conference.

Zack Sowder a 2009 graduate of Lakota West placed eighth of 44 competitors in the carpentry event. He was enrolled in the Carpentry program at D. Russel Lee. His instructor is Dave McNelly. Zach Reynolds, a 2009 graduate of Edgewood, placed out of 17 out of 27competitors in the Technical Computer Applications event. He was enrolled in the Network Systems Tech Prep program at D. Russel Lee.

D. Russel Lee Students Earn BPA’s Highest Honor:

The Torch Awards Program promotes active participation by members at the local, regional, state and national levels to inspire students to develop themselves as individuals and leaders. The program provides an excellent avenue to recognize members who have shown outstanding individual qualities that is based upon rigorous requirements.

Out of the 42,110 total BPA National members, 1.4 percent were recognized this year as Ambassador Torch Award Recipients. There were 3,000 students nationally that started with this program at the beginning of the school year with only 604 completing. Out of that 604, there were 100 torch award recipients from Ohio; eight of which came from D. Russel Lee and six from the Fairfield Butler Tech Business Academy.
