Swine Flu — Lakota is ready

Lakota officials spent Sunday and Monday preparing for a potential outbreak of the Swine Flu. You may recall reading that the Elyria City School District had to shut its doors for a week (mandatory) in order to contain the potential spread of the virus from a boy who had recently traveled to Mexico with family.

Here is what is happening at Lakota:

  1. Officials had conversations with the Butler County Health Director to share information for emergency contacts;
  2. They sent e-mails to all principals on the situation;
  3. Communication with school nurses updated them on the symptoms and asked they be on the lookout for any flu-like symptoms in students and staff;
  4. Posted online and on other district Web sites information as well as a link to the CDC
  5. Prepared parent information to post on the district Web site;
  6. Is continuously monitoring the news updates and keeping in contact with officials.
