Technology in the classroom
The West Chester Liberty Township Community Foundation awarded a grant for $3,500 to the Lakota Local School district for the purchase of student response system clickers. These systems integrate with the 3M boards and allow students to interact with the lesson. Both students and teachers are able to see a percentage of correct and incorrect responses while reviewing for quizzes and tests. In addition, the software records data, keeping track of individual student responses. Clickers can be used for warm-up activities, opinion polling, surveys, icebreakers and content questions. In addition, teachers can develop and administer tests. The grant was written as the SRS Collaborative and consists of a team of five Lakota teachers. These teachers will work to develop lessons using the clickers and store them on a district server where teachers from the same subject area from any of the other three high school buildings can access and use for their classrooms. The SRS Collaborative team members are the following:
Sandee Coats Haan, Honors Physics/AP Physics, Lakota East High School
Adam Gleim, Economics/Sociology, Lakota West High School
Susan Kerkhove, C.P. Algebra/Freshman Math, Lakota East Freshman Campus
Tonya Nkhata, Biology 91/Biology 92, Lakota West Freshman Campus
