Congrats to LEGO robotics teams

I just got an e-mail from one Lakota coach that I will share with you below. Did your children participate in this contest? I have watched it in years past and have been quite impressed at the level of creativity shown by these students.

“Last year you did an article about our RIDGE Robotics Team that competed in the First Lego League and took second place at State. We also placed eighth at the HTK International Invitational in Minneapolis.

This year our team moved to Lakota West Freshman and is called W.E.S.T. - World Environment Saving Team. Not only did we compete as a team, but our kids also mentored three rookie teams from Freedom Elementary. This past weekend was our Thunderhawks Regional tournament. Our WEST team won the tournament (Champions Award), the Robot Performance Award, and received a bid to the State Tournament. Our mentoree teams also each won an award, which is a great accomplishment for rookie teams. One of our mentoree teams, Nano Killer Whales - also received a bid to state. In addition I received, along with my co-coach John Trygier, Coach of the Year Award. Also this year, my younger daughter Madeline was on the Team No Name, for which I was an assistant coach, and John’s younger son John-Henry, was on the Nano Killer Whales.

So our WEST team has started its journey - next comes state, and if we are lucky enough to win that, we will meet our goal of going to the World competition in Atlanta. As this will be our last year as a team (we age out), our WEST kids also have passed on their legacy to a new group of kids. The State Tournament this year will be Feb 14 and 15 at the Nutter Center in Dayton.

Our WEST Team Members are - Jess Trygier, Braden Fullington, Aaron Holder, Robert Ipach, Cameron Koehlke, and Timmy Tanner. Coaches are Mike Fullington and John Trygier.
