Other side of the story
I was at the Lakota West Homecoming festivities when two teachers approached me about recent articles on the teacher contracts. They wanted to know I have be “siding” with the administration in the contract dispute. I told them that definitely was not my intention, but the Union leaders won’t even return e-mails or phone calls.
These teachers said they want their story told. So, I will do my best this week to dig up some of that story if teachers will talk to me about it. One of the biggest complaints I have heard is that I shouldn’t compare the state average salary of teachers to the Lakota average. I later compared the averages to Mason and other similar districts. However, these teachers told me that isn’t fair either since Mason teachers are younger. I can understand that.
So, help me out. I am asking for teachers and parents to give their thoughts on this blog. Perhaps you have better numbers to compare. One parent wanted me to compare other salaries of workers in the area. A teacher wanted me to compare contracts. Yikes! That could take a while. I will do some research today and report back tomorrow.
