School financing
I am working on some stories about school financing and would love your ideas. What is it that you don’t understand? What would you like to know more about.
So far, I am planning to address issues like these: Why aren’t all these new homes bringing in enough tax revenue? Where do funds come from? What is a funding formula and how does it affect Lakota?
You will notice in this story by my colleague, Denise, Monroe is dealing with some levy issues. Lakota will be in the red soon too. If Gov. Ted Strickland’s new plan doesn’t do something drastic, all area schools will be facing some tough decisions.http://www.pulsejournal.com/hp/content/oh/story/news/local/2008/07/07/mon071008finances.html
What is your solution to the funding crisis? Where would you make cuts? Where would you find alternate sources of funding?

Is there a funding crisis or a spending crisis? School systems tend to be very wasteful and they claim that levies are needed “for the children.” Whenever you cover a story concerning funding or levies don’t forget the TAXPAYER. Yes, that poor, downtrodden and forgotten person who works hard just to see the various governments take away his/her pay. Look hard for wasteful spending. Find websites that are anti-levy. Doesn’t have to be for your district. Just to get another view. And if a levy comes up, seek out the comments of opponents. I don’t believe I have seen the DDN ever oppose a levy. Bias? You bet!
