Hats and tassles off to the class of 2008
After sitting in miles of traffic and listening to “pomp and circumstance” twice, I can say I have had my fill of graduation. Still, it was so nice to chat with the families of graduates while sitting in the stands for West’s big morning. Then, later, I sat on the steps reading a book and watched the grads line up for their big moment. Many were nervous at the thought of walking in front of such a big crowd. I stayed back in the wings and watched as teachers got teary-eyed and students gave their parents a standing ovation. It was very classy.
At West’s ceremony, the men playing “God Bless America” on bag pipes and drums gave me chills and those students singing the “National Anthem” were amazing. At East, I was blown away by the girl who sang “Change the World,” with the Eastside Voices.
The speeches, while similar in topic, showed the unique personality of students. I can’t imagine getting up to speak in front of so many people, and none of them looked the slightest bit nervous. I was so impressed, as I am sure were others.
It was wonderful to see the Lakota community come together to celebrate this day. Were you there? What did you think?
