Centerville’s Odenigbo verbally commits to play football at Northwestern
Centerville High School senior Ifeadi Odenigbo verbally committed to play football at Northwestern University before friends and family at his home Saturday afternoon.
A 6-foot-4, 220-pound defensive end, Odenigbo chose the Wildcats over Stanford and Notre Dame. He also had considered Ohio State until the multiple coaching changes there.
An outstanding pass rusher with sprinter’s speed, he’s expected to move to outside linebacker at Northwestern. He intends to run track and field this spring and graduate with his class in June.
He also played in the Under Armour All-American football game at St. Petersburg, Fla., last week. He recorded two sacks for the Black team, which lost to the Red team 49-16.
He’ll be at least the fifth former Elk on a Big Ten roster next season. Senior teammate and offensive tackle Benny McGowen is headed to Michigan State. Defensive tackle Michael Bennett just finished his freshman season at OSU. Brothers Adam and Mike Replogle are defensive players at Indiana.
The first day that seniors can sign national letters of intent is Wed., Feb. 1.
