West Carrollton football head coach field down to final 7
The West Carrollton High School head football position has a final field of seven, including one current and two more former area head coaches.
An initial field of 42 has been whittled down to seven. Pirates athletic director Rob Dement said interviews will be conducted next week and he hopes to have a new coach in place by next month.
Among the seven is current Oakwood head coach Rick Robertson. He has the most head coach experience, having previously held that position at Springfield North, Fairmont and Springfield high schools.
Robertson spent this past season as Oakwood’s head coach after resigning from Springfield last spring. The Lumberjacks were 0-10.
Other former head coaches to make the cut are Nic Black (Graham) and Bob Franz (Waynesville).
WC’s final seven:
• Nic Black: Springboro’s defensive coordinator; previously Graham’s head coach.
• Chris English: Fairborn’s defensive coordinator.
• Bob Franz, Bellbrook assistant; previously Waynesville’s head coach.
• Matthew Hopkins, Eaton’s offensive coordinator.
• Chris Newman, Fairmont’s offensive coordinator.
• Rick Robertson, Oakwood’s head coach; previously head coach at Springfield North, Fairmont and Springfield.
• Jeff Smith, Urbana University assistant.
