Trotwood 42, Avon 28; final
MASSILLON - Isreal Green elevated his game to the spectacular by scoring a record six touchdowns to lead Trotwood-Madison to a 42-28 defeat of Avon in the Division II high school state football championship Friday night at Paul Brown Tiger Stadium.
Green’s TDs were an all-time, all-division state title game record, as were his 326 yards rushing. That surpassed the D-II state title game rushing record held by none other than Chaminade Julienne’s Javon Ringer, who went for 251 when the Eagles won the 2002 title. Green had four TDs and 229 yards rushing at halftime,
Trailing by 21, Avon bunched two scores to pull within seven midway through the fourth quarter. Trailing 28-7 at one point, the Eagles’ comeback is reminiscent of last week when Columbus Marion-Franklin rallied from a 40-16 halftime deficit yet lost to Trotwood, 47-44.
Green answered that with his fourth short TD run.
Green dashed 38 untouched yards on 4th-and-1 with 6:22 left in the third quarter for his fifth score. That tied him with two others for the most TD in a title game, all divisions.
The junior running back scored his fourth TD, a 4-yard run, with just 0:31 left in the half to deflate the undermanned Eagles. The Rams (14-0) scored 28 unanswered points after trailing 7-0.
Avon (13-1) struck just 20 seconds after Green’s fourth score when Justin O’Rourke fired a 17-yard TD pass to Jacob Mullins. The quick strike was set up by a nifty 43-yard hook-and-ladder play that fooled the Rams.
Green tallied his third touchdown, a 1-yarder, with 8:10 left in the half to put Trotwood up 20-7.
Green, apparently stopped near the sideline, instead spun off several would-be tacklers and dashed 74 yards for his second score.
He also set up his own 1-yard touchdown run with a 54-yard gallop on the play before to pull Trotwood within 7-6 midway through the first quarter.
Green was unstoppable, especially in the first quarter when he rushed for 173 yards.
Ralph Smith returned a deflected pass 67 yards for a touchdown to give Avon a 7-0 lead. Rams quarterback Michael Simpson fired toward Dalin Bird, but Smith tipped the pass forward and then snared it and raced untouched to score.
Earlier today Kirtland defeated Coldwater 28-7 to win the D-V state title and Youngstown Mooney beat Springfield Shawnee 21-14 for the D-III title.
The Divisions I, IV and VI title games are Saturday.

Would love to see Trotwood win the championship, but their poor pass defensive and sloppy tackling is letting Avon get back in it. Come on, tighten up that D!!

Listened to the game on the internet, couldn’t get to the game because I live in England. My dad was a coach at TM back in the day, and if I’m not mistaken this is the 30th anniversary of TM’s first foray into the playoffs in 1981. Lost in the final 27-7 to Cleveland Benedictine. Or was it 1982? Long time ago anyways! Way to go you Ram Rods!!!

Whoever the haters are cracking on Trotwood’s academic skills, for the record their team has about a 3.2 GPA. I don’t usually say things like this on here but you need to go suck it.

To the comments made earlier by The Old Ball Coach—you are 100% correct! It’s too bad the whole greater Dayton area can’t be proud that one of the schools in this area is actually a Division I state football champion. Trotwood High School, the coaching staff, parents, and especially the young men on that team deserves just as much respect as if a Beavercreek, Kettering Fairmont, or whatever football team would earn the championship!

Douglas was charged with illegally recruiting athletes to play for his team. Upon review by the Ohio High School Athletic Association, he and his staff were found guilty of the charge. In 2008, he was placed on suspension for three weeks and his offensive coordinator resigned. The school was placed on two year probation.[1] Trotwood hit a suspected recruiting flash point with neighboring rival Northmont. Zebrie Sanders is a 6-6, 275-pound Northmont senior offensive tackle. “Pretty much he just said, ‘Hi,’ and he wanted me to come over and talk to him,” recalled Sanders, who was invited into Douglass’ office last February at a boys basketball game. “He just talked about Northmont and then he said he was going to try and get me to come play for a real school. “He asked if my dad was around. I told him yeah. So (Douglass) said he was going to try and talk to him about some stuff.” Just some of the Senior Transfers to Trotwood: Doug Rippy, a 6-foot-3, 220-pound senior linebacker (from Columbus Linden McKinley) Jamiihr Williams, 6-2, 234, senior linebacker (Lima Senior) Keith-Sean Foster, 6-6, 230, senior two-way lineman (Chaminade-Julienne) Norman Young, 6-1, 175, senior WR/DB (Northridge) Keith Woods, 6-2, 280 senior lineman (Dunbar) Michael Shaw, 6-1, 192, senior running back (Alter) Roy Roundtree, who bolted from Belmont Mike Simpson, sr., QB; a three-year starter at Chaminade Julienne, Meadowdale has lost so many football players to Trotwood — six in three seasons — that Lions coach Bosie Miliner dropped the Rams from his schedule. Douglas after getting beat by Wayne: “That was the worst-officiated game. They took the game out of the kids’ hands,” said Douglass, after spending nearly 30 minutes in the locker room with his players. “They made a lot of calls because the guy on the other sideline, Jay Minton, has been coaching more than me and doesn’t look like me.” Douglass is black, and Minton is white. “That dude right there (pointing to an official) was on Jay Minton’s side and made that call — because Jay Minton said, ‘Make the call,’ ” Douglass said.

Negs will be negs, regardless. People still love to paint the Rams with one bad broad brush, but they are celebrating, laughing, they made history and they are Champs. Null and yeah, your criticism is lost in our shouting. YEAH RAMS IS RIGHT BABY, STATE CHAMPS!

What comes out of Trotwood? Well I graduated from college with my Bachelor’s Degree. I am currently in a Graduate Degree Program with a 3.7 gpa, and I graduated from Trotwood. Anyway, Trotwood is not from downtown Dayton (but if it was, who cares anyway). Also, I know quite a few Trotwood football players who graduated from Trotwood and who graduated with honors from Trotwood a few that earned a college degree. Also, I don’t know about most of the other players recruited, but I do know these players often transfer to help get accepted into a university. I don’t see how wanting to go to college is a bad idea, good for those boys who went to college on a football scholarship. Entering a higher education institute is never a bad idea.
