Lebanon athletic hall of fame

The following is a release:

On Saturday, Dec. 10 at halftime of the varsity boy’s basketball game 10 former Lebanon High School athletes and coaches will be inducted into the LHS Athletic Hall of Fame, along with a special couple.

The induction will take place at approximately 8 p.m. at halftime of the varsity contest. Please join us to honor these former Warriors. Tickets can be purchased at presale prices from the athletic department prior to the day of the game.

This ninth induction class includes:

• Ronald G. Haven (1971), who was an outstanding basketball player for Coach Ron Holtrey and became league Player of the Year his senior season;

• Victoria Lee Barnthouse (1971), who lettered in five different sports as well as being a 3-year varsity cheerleader;

• Gary Lee (1972), who earned 10 varsity letters in football, basketball and baseball and All-American recognition at Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology;

• Sue Lippy (1983) who earned a remarkable 12 varsity letters in four different sports and six team MVP awards;

• Casey Shaw (1993) who holds several basketball records, the University of Toledo and played 13 years of pro basketball;

• Brady Merchant (1999), who has state recognition in both football and basketball while having his basketball jersey retired and holds basketball records at Harvard;

• Lindsey Hicks (2000), who is the only female to have her jersey retired and then went to the NCAA Final Four with Purdue and played seven years of pro basketball overseas;

• Casey Abrams (2000), who earned state recognition in wrestling, started on the state championship football team and made his name in baseball while playing at Wright State University and was a 5th round MLB draft pick playing minor league pro baseball with the Seattle Mariners;

• Coach Ron Holtrey, who won 152 games as the head basketball coach over 11 year, including 38 consecutive regular season victories;

• Coach Jim VanDeGrift, who coached the football program for 15 years, winning 109 games, 5 league titles and a state runner-up finish in 1980;

• And special member Gerald & Jean Brown, known as Ma & Pa Brown to the cross country and track teams for taking care of them for 18 years.
