CJ 30, Waynesville 17; final
CENTERVILLE - Brandon Payne tallied his second TD run from 12 yards with 1:00 left in the fourth quarter to give Chaminade Julienne a 30-17 victory over Waynesville in their D-IV, Region 16 high school football semifinal on Saturday night.
Caleb Keeton kicked a 30-yard field goal to pull Waynesville within 24-17 with 3:34 left in the fourth quarter.
Sam Spees kicked a 23-yard field goal with 8:04 remaining in the fourth quarter to give CJ a 24-14 lead.
Ty Black snared his second TD pass from Luke Creditt to pull Waynesville within 21-14 on the first play of the fourth quarter. Black’s score went for 12 yards.
Payne raced 15 untouched yards to give CJ a 21-7 lead with 3:42 left in the third quarter.
Wesley Lumpkin raced 60 yards with a TD just 23 seconds after Waynesville had pulled even to give CJ a 14-7 halftime lead.
Black also caught a 20-yard TD pass from Creditt as Waynesville tied it at 7-all with 3:54 left in the second quarter.
Darrien Howard scored on a 1-yard run to cap an 80-play drive on CJ’s opening possession to give the Eagles a 7-0 lead.
CJ is (8-3) and Waynesville (11-0). The winner plays Clinton-Massie (10-2), a 24-10 winner over Cin. Hills Christian Academy in the other Region 16 semifinal. The neutral site of next Saturday’s regional final will be announced on Sunday.
