Middletown 28, Centerville 10; final

MIDDLETOWN - Receiver Zach Edwards caught two TD passes from QB Jalin Marshall as Middletown defeated Centerville 28-10 in Saturday night’s D-I, Region 4 high school football playoff opener at Barnitz Stadium.

Senior running back EJ Junior rumbled 34 yards to put Middletown up 21-3 in the third quarter. Marshall raced 72 untouched yards for a TD and then he tossed a 27-yard scoring pass to Edwards, all in the second quarter, to give Middletown a 14-3 halftime lead.

The Elks (7-3) were first on the board with a 26-yard field goal by Jason Kaczala. Centerville’s Kyle Wenning also scored on a short fourth-quarter run to account for the final score.

Middletown (10-1) plays Moeller next Saturday at a neutral site to be determined. Moeller defeat Sycamore 31-21 also on Saturday.

Once again, C-ville has no answer for someone who loads up the box and shuts down the run. 51 attempts for 86 yards? Who in their right mind would keep going to the run when you are continually getting stuffed? Year after year we see this with these Elks teams when they get to really good competition and/or play against good coaching. No offensive adjustments, no change in offense, same results. Oh well, there is always next year.

NO passing game all year. No balance. You can scout a Elk team in 1 series. You can do that against GWOC teams but not GOOD teams.

Null, other people posting on here or on like minded sites, r j from the burg is one, all say in order to get better, C-vile must take on the BEST in OHIO.. They did so with Cincy Elder and Moe (?), and one other team and were beaten. Had the teams that LaSalle needed to lose, had lost, last nights game would have been LaSalle Vs Middie not C-ville. Fl Elk, as Ed use to say to Johnny. You are RIGHT Sir.. Please tell me or any other football fan, when you are down by 14 or more points and your running game sucks, you STOP and pass. Why is it that in the playoff you have not watched the game tapes of the other team to see how you can stop them.. You don’t think Middies didn’t sit back and say OK C-Ville runs a lot and passes few? HELLO we are in the play off now. No time to sit back and run the ball if it is not working! So say Goodbye to C-Ville.. Funny how that r j guy from Msbg was right. The teams he said would lose, DID! Top 4 seeds all playing again next week. Strongest out of Div 1 Reg 4. COLERAIN. Look for the upset with Middletown losing next week. Colerain then will play that winner. I see Colerain going on to win State! What was their score against a team that should not have been in the play off to start?? 63 to 6 or something along that line.. Goes to show having a winning record VS teams that are not that good. Heck even at 2-8 I think Elder could have beat Walnut Hills..See Ya next season C-Vile and Wayne and OH Yeah that other team. Northmont. Hope they had fun sitting back watching the Cincy area team in the Play off. Bye

null jr. If you haven’t passed the ball ALL year how do you expect to throw in panic situation? The Elks are GWOC good, not a regional power. Saw Colerain game and they are good but their opponent was awful. Looks like the GWOC is just Dayton good.

Centerville being GWOC good is definitely true and they are a good matchup for anyone in the state. You have to play to beat them. Trotwood can play with or beat anyone in Ohio.

centerville is the same story every year. 7-4, 8-3…great for them. Any other power in the state such as elder or x would crush them every year. Even some of the past years alter or coldwater teams (minus last year) would crush them. Cville is conservative and predictable. Anyone who says their coaching is great, clearly isnt watching the same games the rest of us are. Every year is the same, they beat the terrible gwoc teams they are supposed to, and then lose 2 terrible games only to somehow make the playoffs and get murdered by any cincinnati team. I suppose the one good thing the elks are good at is selling themselves to THEMSELVES. any other team wouldnt be so in love with the allusion of “success” they have created. Teams from cleveland and cincinnati laugh when they hear centerville. Any who disagrees with this stuff either went to centerville or is in denial. PERIOD.

Regardless of what you think, Centerville is a perennial playoff team that other area teams model themselves after. They can’t win on the next level because they don’t have the athletes. The GWOC had 2 teams in the state finals last season in the 2 biggest divisions in Ohio. No other conference did. Also Centerville destroyed Alter last season and took them off the schedule. Furthermore Piqua won state in 2006 and Trotwood may very well win this season. They’re all GWOC teams.

If you can not throw the ball some , you are not a complete team therefore not a power. Good teams run over teams like the GWOC. Great teams compete against all teams. C’vill is good but hardly a power great.

Alter was a vastly overrated team last year, one of their weaker teams in recent memory, meanwhile cville had one of their more talented teams. They dont have they athletes? they are one of the biggest schools in ohio, but to be fair, if it was up to me i wouldnt want to go centerville if i was a good athlete because of that type of conservative predictable coaching. Also if power u is even trying to compare the gwoc to any level of the gcl, that is a huge mistake and an idiotic one at that. The type of “talent” cville gets should get them to a second round of the playoffs here and there also. ignorance and denial are the first two words that come to mind with centerville football

I’m going to say this and I’m done. You said Centerville couldn’t play with Coldwater or Alter. Fact is they smacked Alter last season regardless of how talented they were. They still made the playoffs. No Centerville doesn’t have the athletes to make big plays they have numbers in that they have more boys than anyone in the area hence the system or conservative style. Lastly, I repeat, Trotwood would give all of the GCL problems. None of the GCL teams have speed. I hope you’re not talking about the whole GCL because if you are than it is comparable. St. X, Elder and sometimes Moeller are nationally recognized. But Trotwood might beat all three.

Trotwood is very good this year, not debating that. But to defend that by claiming they have great speed is non sensical for anyone who has been watching trot wood in recent years. They have great athletes and speed every year, and usually gets them no where and they end up underacheiving. To say that they would give all 3 of those cincinnati Powers (yes they are examples of “powers”, not cville) is borderline insane. Those 3 cincy teams are in on a whole nother level. Even in down years they are still very formidible and would be able to beat most any dayton area division 1 team. None of those teams have speed? thats news to me. I guess that means the speed is not longer required to have consistently great programs and win year in and year out while being recognized as one of the nations best leagues/teams. I will say one last thing and then i will be done as well. Is cvill a decently good team most years? Yes. Are they 1/10th as good as they claim themselves to be? No. Very good/ Great teams win close games, beat the teams they should, and most of all occacionally beat other great teams. I have never seen a Centerville team do any of those things in recent memory.

haha typical gwoc fan forgets years of futility with one good playoff run. Null jr speaks the sad truth about gwoc/cincy teams. wayne didnt even win the title and its like they wont the super bowl to the oblivious gwoc fans. meanwhile most of the gcl schools are hanging banners every year…sad but true.

The only thing sad ,is you gcl fans.Your Cincy public schools dont do crap. and as far as the oh mighty cheaters go have a meet the coaches night like Moller to steal more players from the public schools…sad but true!!!

By joe

yes i suppose the cincy public schools dont do much, either do the dayton public schools typically. Blaming the catholic schools of cheating is rich considering 1 - trotwood has been accused of stealing players and cheating more than any school in cincinnati (or dyt for that matter) and 2 because many of the public schools you speak of are open enrollment. I guess ignorance is bliss. Or maybe its just jealousy of what the gcl schools accomplish. who knows. im not even a big gcl fan, i went to dayton public schools actually. but im clear headed enough to be able to see these things that everyone besides those from the gwoc in denial can

And ignorance with you of the GWOC.But thats ok,it wont be long before the gcl will only be playing each other. Goodbye CHEATER!!!

Trotwood WILL choke!! They do EVERY YEAR!!! It is just their nature to be so darn athletic and no discipline, as well as A jackass for a coach!! TW is the best team in the state, talent wise but will not win the state!!! Thanks to good ole “CHOKINMO”!!!
