Brown reportedly receiving scholarship offers

According to a website, former Dunbar High School basketball player Keontae Brown has enrolled at West Virginia Christian Prep Academy for the upcoming school year and continues to draw interest and scholarship offers from mid-major college programs. That information was recently posted by the Cincinnati Prep Hoops Report.

Brown, a 6-3 guard who graduated in June, apparently has been outstanding with the AAU team Cincinnati Knights. CPHR said that he has received offers from Cleveland State, Kent State, Ball State, Youngstown State and Southern Illinois.

However, a case of heroin possession remains open against Brown. He was indicted by the Montgomery County Common Pleas Court on April 5 and was scheduled to be arraigned on April 19. A warrant was issued for his arrest on May 3 when he failed to show for the arraignment. He has been ordered held without bond.

That charge resulted from an incident this past Jan. 28 when he led officers on a slow-speed car chase. The heroin charge is a fourth degree felony that could result in a maximum 6-18 month sentence.

According to its website, West Virginia Christian Prep Academy will open this fall and field football and boys and girls basketball teams. The school is located at South Charleston, W.Va.

Brown averaged 14 points for the Wolverines last season.

This article raises a few questions. Did Keontae actually attend classes and graduate from Dunbar while under an indictment for heroin? Is either the AAU team or the WV prep team aware of his drug charge? Has Dayton police made any attempt to arrest him? Just wondering. It seems like he is making a joke or mockery out of the teams, Dunbar, and law enforcement.

Don’t ask questions…he is a basketball “star” which, in some eyes, means he should get preferential treatment. All that matters is basketball! I’m sure he is a “good kid” too. I’m surprised the religious leadership of Dayton didn’t clamor for an investigation when the “slow speed chase” occurred. They are good at that; not so good at providing a moral compass for those they purport to lead.

This does indicate the incompetency of the Dayton Police. It seems with a bit of investigation and a couple of phone calls to Cincinnati they could have had Cincinatti police apprehended this basketball “star” and thug.

This article indicates Keontae Brown graduated from Dunbar in June. If that is true, I have lost what little respect I had for Dunbar High School.

The only basketball court that Keontae Brown should be playing on is in a prison yard.

To Sheriff. All felony drug cases in Mont Co. go direct to a grand jury after the arrest is made. The suspect is usually released pending lab work on the drugs. It has nothing to do with competency of DPD. Brown is a street thug with an athletic gift. He’ll probably go to college for free, then the NBA. while all us working stiffs get to pay for our kids. Who says crime don’t pay?

@Kerry If Keontae Brown has such “great parents”, how come they don’t turn their kid in and let him face the heroin possession charge. If they were such “great parents”, why is he such a thug. They may be decent folks, but I think “great” is a bit of an exaggeration

Along with the heroin possession charge in Dayton, Keontae Brown had an assault charge in the city of Franklin on May 24. This are in addition to his juvenile charges and suspended driver’s license. I’d say he has made a few bad choices.

Good man Kerry Ivy. We r together on this. Tu tu had a lot to live up to with his dad. 1 mistake does not make a person. He is a player and did graduate. This cracker from c-ville would get his a*s kicked at Dunbar HS. Coach Powell is 1 of the classiest men in America. Pete Pullen, large and in charge. The class also rolls in everyday in Coach O’Neal. Naldo should be a college coach at Wright St. Kerry tell Harvey I said hey.

Al Busse Jr. You really are that bright or can’t read. Keontae Brown has not just made 1 mistake. If you read the comments, you will see he has had juvenile charges, suspended driver’s license, heroin charge, assault charge, and most likely others. It has absolutely nothing to do with centerville.
