Alter to move up to Division III in football this fall
The Alter High School football team, one of the area’s most successful of the past decade, will move up from Division IV to D-III next season based on new enrollment figures.
The Ohio High School Athletic Association Tweeted about Alter’s move today, the day the Board of Directors approved the new enrollment levels for fall sports divisions.
The OHSAA updates enrollment figures from grades 9-11 every two years. The updated enrollment, released two weeks ago, showed Alter’s boys enrollment number increased from 236 to 255. The Knights were one of the state’s largest D-IV schools.
The Knights won consecutive D-IV state titles in 2008 and ‘09 and finished in the state semifinals last season. Alter was last Division III in 2006, when the team lost the state championship game 34-33 to Steubenville.
