Centerville top contenders at district swimming

The following is a news release from the Centerville High School swimming and diving program:

The Centerville swim and dive teams head into the Southwest Ohio District Championship Meet this weekend at Miami University as top contenders in the highly competitve region and in the state-wide competiton later this month.

The Elks won their 14th consecutive Southwest Ohio Sectional Meet Feb.11-12 at the Washington Township Recreational Center, dominating the competition from area Division I high school swim teams.

The Lady Elk’s scored 602 points at the Sectional Meet, the second highest points scored by the Lady Elks in the last 10 years at this meet, which was 324 points over second place Miamisburg High School.

Of the 23 CHS women competing at Sectionals last weekend, 13 qualified for the upcoming District meet and six qualified in both of their individual events to earn a top seed spot in the competition.

Senior Morgan Mullins qualified for the second place seed in Diving; sophomore Marisa Pulaski will be fourth in the 200-yard Individual Medley and fifth in the 100 -yard breaststroke; freshman Jessie Schieman qualified for seventh in the 50- yard freestyle; sophomore Olivia Lehman qualified for the eighth spot in diving; and junior Taylor Myszka qualified eighth in the 500- yard freestyle.

Also placing first at the Sectionals meet were the CHS men’s team, who scored 587 points and finished 261 points over second place Beavercreek High School.

Sophomore Josh Brooks qualified as the number one seed at Districts in the 500 yard freestyle and second place seed in the 200- yard Individual Medley; senior Ryan Slavik qualified second in diving; junior Brian Clark qualified fifth in the 50- yard freestyle and eighth in the 100- yard freestyle; senior Alex Osterhage qualified seventh in the 500- yard freestyle and eighth in the 200 -yard freestyle; sophomore Jake Carlsen qualified for seventh in the 200 -yard freestyle and eighth in the 500- yard freestyle; junior Jay Hickey qualified fifth in the 200- yard Individual Medley; and junior Sam Mitchell qualified seventh in the 100- yard backstroke.

The CHS men’s team competes at Cox Natatorium on the Miami University campus in Oxford on Fri., Feb. 18 while the women compete in the same pool Sat., Feb. 19. Complete results and more information are available at www.elkswimanddive.com or www.swimmeet.com
