Dunbar’s Keontae Brown cleared of possession, charged with failure to comply
DAYTON — Dunbar High School basketball standout Keontae Brown has been cleared of possession of drugs, but the senior guard still faces a charge of failure to comply. Brown, 18, remained in custody at the Montgomery County Jail on Sunday.
Brown was arrested Friday night, Jan. 28, at 10:54 p.m. by Dayton police at 2605 Auburn, Dayton. He is scheduled to appear before the Montgomery County Court on Monday. Failure to comply is a first degree misdemeanor and generally means a refusal to obey an official order.
Brown initially also was charged with possession of drugs, a fifth-degree felony. That charge has since been dropped. All information was obtained by the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office.
A record of the police report was not available.
Brown, a 6-2 guard, is averaging 14 points for the Wolverines in essentially his first year on the team. He missed all of last season while being monitored by juvenile detention for a break-in incident that occurred in 2009.
“Everybody’s kind of hurt and disappointed, I can say that much,” Dunbar coach Pete Pullen said on Sunday.
“We were hoping that he had turned the other way. Still, I don’t know the situation so I’m just trying to keep it up in the air and be hopeful and prayerful about it.”
Dunbar (11-2), the state’s top-ranked Division II team and the defending D-II state champion, played Thurgood Marshall on Sunday in part of a City League doubleheader at UD Arena. It was the first game for the Wolverines since a 71-60 defeat of Trotwood-Madison on Sunday, Jan. 23.
Brown is the son of former Dunbar great and current freshman coach and varsity assistant Richard “TuTu” Brown.
