Wayne’s Crider: State title only thing better than beating Trotwood

HUBER HEIGHTS - Could it get any better for Wayne than an 85-60 thrashing of Trotwood-Madison in a great boys high school basketball rivalry?

Well, yes, according to Warriors senior Markus Crider.

“A state championship is the only way I think it could get better,” he said following Tuesday night’s leveling of the Rams.

It was the fourth time the high-flying Warriors (11-1) surpassed 80 points. It also was their most devastating display since leaning on Crider and Travis Trice II as sophomores two seasons ago. The teams hadn’t played since 2006.

Wayne, the DDN’s No. 1 D-I team, hosts Beavercreek on Friday.

Here’s what the Warriors had to say following the Trotwood victory:

Wayne sr., Markus Crider

“They wanted to call it a rivalry and that’s cool, but we definitely knew that we’d come out with a win. We practice hard, play hard and go out and win hard.

“It’s a nice roll (winning six straight). An emotional high. It’s hard to explain, actually. Whitney Young, Northmont and now here, all three giant games.

“A state championship is the only way I think it could get better.”

Wayne sr. Travis Trice II

“It was a real emotional game. We didn’t just want to win; we wanted to leave no doubt.

“You can just tell overall, even in practice, how our focus is up. Everybody has sold out. We like that team commaradarie.

“Trotwood’s a real good team. We have a lot of respect for them. We came out and our main goal was to hit them first before they hit us. We got out 10-0 and that’s what we wanted to do, come out early and put our stamp on the game.”
