Welcome Stadium parking to be maxed out with UD, Wayne/Centerville games
If you’re planning on attending Saturday’s Centerville vs. Wayne high school football game at Welcome Stadium, be advised that parking probably won’t be available until after 4:30 p.m.
The University of Dayton opens its men’s basketball season at 2 p.m. on Saturday vs. visiting Mount Saint Marys. Flyers games usually last about two hours and parking fills the stadium’s lots.
Game director Jonas Smith, the City League athletic director, said football fans shouldn’t try to enter Welcome Stadium’s lots before 4:30 p.m. The gates for stadium entrance will open at 5:30 p.m.
This is the third straight year that UD’s season opener has coincided with a football game that evening at Welcome Stadium. However, the Elks and Warriors are expected to draw a capacity crowd.
The schools combined to sell about 5,000 total pregame tickets. The stadium can seat 10,000 and several more thousand can be accommodated by standing around the track.
Walk-up ticket sales are $9 and parking $2.
“We’ll accommodate as many people as want to see this game,” said Smith.

There will be plenty of parking before 4:30. All the old geezers in the 100 and 200 levels will leave early, just like they always do no matter what the score it. The lower arena will be half empty with 8 minutes left. It will look like a Wright State men’s game.

There are about 20 vehicles that are planning to show up around 3:00pm to park on the South Side of the football stadium to tailgate. Many reasons is to get there in enough time to set up, have tOSU game on, Eat, and head in the gates around 6pm. Yeah and also get some rounds of Cornhole in. Really does that end of the parking lot get filled up?

Have been there before to watch a playoff game when UD was playing the same day. Many of those people who were there for baskeball did not leave, stayed for the football game. Traffic was awful. Only one entrance, up by stewart street bridge was open. Maybe they learned something from that.
