Wayne coach Jay Minton is OK
How does a high school football coach like Wayne’s Jay Minton handle the roller-coaster, ups and downs of a playoff season? With a little help from Zantac.
The over-the-counter stomach conditioner that helps prevent heartburn should have been cited in last Saturday’s story “Warriors win, then await their playoff fate.” Instead, a similar-sounding anti-depressant was listed.
That caused some concern in Warriors Nation, who apparently wondered if Minton were on powerful medication for anxiety disorders and panic attacks.
Short answer: No. Coach Minton also reports that he has never taken anything like that.
Wayne (7-3) is at Middletown (10-0) in the first round of the Division I, Region 4 playoffs at 7 p.m. Saturday.

Easy mistake to make. Hopefully the coach is being cool about it. And of course there’s no shame in taking the [similar-sounding anti-depressant.]

Elks coach Ullery like Minton are both on medication to control their arrogance and it isn’t working. Both Elks and Warriors will be one and out come their playoff games with contenders. Centerville has no business being in the playoffs to begin with and Wayne is only their due to the quarterback going to OSU. Retire coaches especially Ullery

For Ullery Relation: Acutally Wayne is NOT going because they have a QB that is going to OSU. Wayne is fortunate enough to have Jay Minton who if my memory serves me correctly for the last 12 seasons he has coached, he and his team has made playoffs 9 times. Both of these teams have both earned their spots in the playoffs!! So what if they go one and out at least they made it where most teams dream of being. So maybe people who make comments like yours need a strong prescription for ignorance!!

To Ullery Relation: Do you have any idea how teams make the playoffs? It’s not voted on like in college and there is no selection committee. It’s based on winning and teams you defeated continuing to win. Obviously Centerville played a tough enough schedule, as did Wayne. The fact that their quarterback is going to OSU has no weight whatsoever on Wayne making the playoffs. He could be going to a school without a football team and Wayne would still be in the playoffs.

Jeez. Why all the hate for Minton and Ullery. They win, your team’s don’t. So shut the f..k up and work harder in the off-season to make the playoffs and get as good as Wayne, Centerville and other teams in post-season.

It’s quality comments like these that bring me back to the DDN site again and again. It’s no wonder the main news page has stopped accepting comments.

Pretty good observation, JD. That’s exactly why.

Pendleton’s anti-Centerville bias is disgusting. Why run an article about the Wayne/C-ville game again ? And yesterday’s article whining about Northmont not making the playoffs…..they didn’t make because they were not good enough. Minton is a good coach, leave it at that. Ullery is a lunatic and his coaching style is from the 50’s but that shouldn’t give a weasel like Pendleton the right the print anti-Centerville garbage.

@UlleryRelation:I played for Coach Minton and I dont like how you are disrespecting my coach. I tell people all the time Coach Minton is like the high school football version of Tom Izzo in this sense he will play whoever at the begining of the season he will play the best of the best because he knows when GWOC hit and playoff time comes we will be ready and this team is starting to peak. Im not saying this because im a Wayne Alumni and a Wayne fan but dont be shocked if this team wins Saturday im telling you Coach Minton has a way to motivate his players i know first hand. I hate Cville but i will deffintly cheer for them as well as all GWOC teams it only helps our conference get more respect. GO WAYNE!!!!

At ease, nemo34. Another writer was listed as the author of that story. When it was corrected, it popped back to the top of the web site. Anti-Centerville? Plug in Centerville on the team pages and pick what has been printed, if you can scroll through it all. If this is the best you can offer, go find another site to clutter.

OK I must root for Wayne as they beat us fair and square. As for the ELKS we handled them totally as the OT did not show the actual yards gained rushing, passing by N’Mont. We outplayed them except for our fumbles and interceptions which led to their scores. They and Ullery were so upset with the loss that Ullery informed his players not to shake our hands. That is the norm with him as he is so ignorant and self centered. Wayne will crush Centerville because of their rushing and air power. Centerville will not be able to handle Miller’s physical ability. Prediction Wayne 47 Centerville 3 or maybe 10 pts at the most…Bolts will win it all next year along with defeating Elks for 3 years in a row

At ease, Boltman; both Northmont AD Robin Spiller and Ullery mutually decided it was best to pass on the handshake. It was getting tense and emotional and neither wanted tempers to flare. And for the record, it was the Bolts who were first ordered to back off. You really should be more informed before you start posting stuff like that about coaches. C’mon, you’re better than nemo34 level.
