Carlisle senior Dusty Laughlin great grandson of former Indians coach

It’s fitting that Dusty Laughlin is a part of Carlisle’s record-setting football team.

He’s the great grandson of Charles “Doc” Laughlin, former teach and head football coach at Carlisle.

The Indians (10-0) will host Kent on (9-1) at 7:30 p.m. Friday at “Doc” Laughlin field in the first round of the Division IV, Region 16 football playoffs.

The Laughlin football connection at Carlisle runs deep. “Doc” had two sons play for the Indians and three grandsons, including Dusty’s father, Zac.

Dusty is a 5-8, 190-pound senior RB/LB.

Wayne coach Jay Minton is OK

How does a high school football coach like Wayne’s Jay Minton handle the roller-coaster, ups and downs of a playoff season? With a little help from Zantac.

The over-the-counter stomach conditioner that helps prevent heartburn should have been cited in last Saturday’s story “Warriors win, then await their playoff fate.” Instead, a similar-sounding anti-depressant was listed.

That caused some concern in Warriors Nation, who apparently wondered if Minton were on powerful medication for anxiety disorders and panic attacks.

Short answer: No. Coach Minton also reports that he has never taken anything like that.

Wayne (7-3) is at Middletown (10-0) in the first round of the Division I, Region 4 playoffs at 7 p.m. Saturday.
