Centerville brings out the best in Wayne QB Braxton Miller

There’s one team that geeks up Wayne QB Braxton Miller more than any other: Centerville.

“It’s more than a big game,” said the senior who’s headed to Ohio State University next season.

“You’ve just got to enjoy it and have fun. It’s the last time I’ll play against them; I’ll just give it my all.”

That’s what Miller did last year, and the result was a resounding 42-20 home victory. If he comes anywhere close to what he did against the Elks in 2009, the Warriors (4-3) should be in great shape for Thursday’s GWOC Central showdown at Centerville (7 p.m., ESPNU).

Miller was at his dual-threat best against the Elks last season, passing for 160 yards and a TD on 12 of 17 completions and dashing 176 yards on just 14 carries. He also rushed for four scores, including runs of 51 and 49 yards.

That game snapped a three-game win streak the Elks had on the Warriors. He was equally impressive as a freshman, passing for 206 yards on 17 of 34 completions and running for 122 yards, including a 52-yard TD scamper and another score. Centerville won that game 28-21 in OT.

That’s the kind of high-end production that vaults a player to No. 1 in the nation at his position.

“This is year four for him,” Centerville coach Ron Ullery said.

“Thank goodness you can’t redshirt in high school. He’s the best high school quarterback I’ve ever seen. I’m an Ohio State fan; I’m going to be his biggest fan after Thursday night.”

Miller missed Centerville’s 31-14 victory as a sophomore because of injuries.

“I wish we could replay last year’s game again,” said Wayne coach Jay Minton.

Miller plans on graduating early and enrolling at OSU in January. That would make him available for spring practice with the Buckeyes.

Centerville will be awfully angry after last weeks loss to Northmont. They might have got caught looking ahead a little.

No, the Bolts just flat out kicked their butts. Oh, dont forget the last time the Bolts were there for the Elks homecoming. They kicked their butts then too. Perhaps the story should read about Braxten fearing the Bolts the week after the lowly Elks …

CF N you forgot to mention the 30-0 Elk victory at Northmont place last year. And that was not a butt kicking this year, Elks more or less gave the game away.

Vince you are half correct last year Centerville did kick Northmont’s butt although Northmont did have several unforced turnovers that lead to scores. This year once again Northmont had several turnovers, 3 int. in the first half and a fumble on the 1 in the second half. More or less as you would say, Northmont tried to give the game away its just Centerville wouldn’t take it.

We can agree on that “true fact”. I think an Elk-Bolt rematch in playoffs would be a great game, but not likely to happen.

So much for getting an unbiased article. Don’t forget to wear your Wayne sweatshirt tonight Marc, it’s gonna get chilly.

Centerville must feel the pain, getting beat in less than a weeks time by Northmont & Wayne Can’t Ullery teach his QB to pass? His so called State bound team is one dimensional and doesnt work. Time to retire coach like your fans want you to do. Northmont will handle both Springfield and Wayne just watch. IF NOT THEN WE KNOW WE OWN ELKS and to let you know last Friday’s score would have been the same as tonights Wayne hadn’t we given the ball away so many times..Elks go watch the tapes of both games this weekend since you are not going anywhere in post season

Of course Coach Ullery can coach; you can only coach what you have to work with. Without a “tall” QB how are you going to pass? Do any of the GWOC coaches make an effort not to win? Does Kettering not want to win, B’creek? Wayne has a good team and C’ville made mistakes. Why Ramsey did not signal a fair catch on the punt? That is player stupidity or oversight. I was not impressed with the O line. I thought they would open huge holes for the backs to run through, but that was not the case. Coaches not coaching is like saying teachers can’t teach, players and students have to want to learn.

Another great battle in the valley. Thats what it is all about. With the GWOC competing agressively no longer are there 1 or 2 dominant but several talented teams that can get the job done. We have to figure out how to move on and get past the traditional Cincy power teams to gain respect and status amongst the states elite.

People in Dayton live with a raging inferiority complex. People respect programs like Centerville, Wayne, and smaller schools like Alter. In Cincinnati though you’ve just got more teams that are better. That’s all. It’s not a slight against Dayton, it’s just a fact of life. Moeller, St. Xavier, Colerain, Elder, Anderson, Winton Woods, and even Middletown. That’s alot of hyper talented schools in a single town. It’s no slight against Dayton that they don’t match that, because nowhere else in Ohio matches that number of good teams, and very few areas in the country as a whole can say they do.

By really, ullery can't coach

Then explain why he calls the same run every time. Why call a pitch out so many times that Wayne is waiting for the ball and scored 2 td because of it. Maybe practice to throw the ball early in summer practice then when u have to you can. He has to GO!!!!
