Wayne-Centerville football matchup to be broadcast on ESPNU
The anticipated football matchup between the Centerville and Wayne high school football teams will be broadcast on ESPNU, giving Wayne three appearances on the network this season.
The Week 8 game at Centerville has been moved from Friday, Oct. 15, to Thursday, Oct. 14, to accommodate the broadcast. It will begin at 7 p.m.
Wayne’s opener against Moeller in the Skyline Chili Crosstown Showdown on Aug. 29 and its Week 2 game against Canton McKinley in the Kirk Herbstreit Series on Sept. 5 will also be broadcast on ESPNU.
Obviously attractive to ESPNU is Wayne quarterback Braxton Miller, the Ohio State commitment who is ranked by Rivals.com and Scout.com as the No. 1 senior quarterback recruit nationally. Centerville features three Bowl Championship Series conference recruits on its defense in lineman Michael Bennett (Ohio State), lineman Kyle Rose (West Virginia) and linebacker Mike Replogle (Indiana).
Centerville will begin the season No. 1 in the Dayton Daily News area Division I ratings. Wayne is No. 2.

While good news for Dayton area football in general and Wayne in particular, it is a sad statement of who is in charge of football when the TV suits dictate moving the game to a school night.

Gary, not too much different than virtually every other sport that plays on weekdays.

It will be so sad to hear the TV talking heads explain during this game how Centerville played so poorly and was embarrassed in a loss to Alter.

Other Sports: Yes, no different than TV suits dictating playing NFL, MLB, NBA,college,or any other sports at times that suit themselves, not the players, not the fans, not anyone else. Example: The Jets/Bengals game being moved to Sunday night last year, sticking Cin fans who had tickets but whose travel schedule could not accommodate a time change without significant costs. It isn’t right.

Don’t see the problem with it. Ths “suits” pay the schools to televise the game - I’m quite sure the “suits” in the admin office were all over it.

It will be so sad to hear the TV talking heads explain during this game how Alter has been busted for recruiting players and how they were embarrassed in a loss to Centerville.

Gary, referring more to the other HS sports (hoops, etc.) that routinely play games on weeknights. In terms of TV, either team has the ability to say no to ESPN.

Are Alter fans allowed to comment on this? This is a big boy article. Maybe they can find an article about a division 8 school (or whatever they are).

I was picking Centerville over Alter until I heard that the genius coach Ullerry (DumbAxx) is playing a first year QB instead of Chris Guzma who’s been playing since freshman year (10-0) and jr varsity (10-0) go figure. Centerville will be lucky to make playoffs. With first year QB Wayne 35 Centerville 7. Alter 28 Centerville 10.
