Jefferson forfeits five games for using ineligible player
The Jefferson High School boys basketball team has been forced to forfeit five regular-season games for the use of an ineligible player, Principal Mattie White said Tuesday, Feb. 23.
Jefferson forfeited wins against Belmont (94-53, Dec. 8), Troy Christian (46-30, Dec. 12), Emmanuel Christian (71-40, Dec. 18), Lockland (99-57, Jan. 5) and Meadowdale (78-57, Jan. 9), White said.
White said the school consulted with the Ohio High School Athletic Association before the season about the eligibility of a transfer student and that the OHSAA told the school the player would be eligible. The association later told the school the player was ineligible after it received a call from another district asking it to investigate, White said.
White declined to name the player, saying the reasons for the transfer were personal.
“It was a change in custody because of some family challenges,” White said.
The forfeits drop Jefferson’s record to 9-10. The Broncos, ranked No. 1 in the DDN area Division IV ratings and No. 7 in the state, begin sectional tournament play against Troy Christian at 8:30 p.m. Saturday at Troy High School.

I don’t understand how this team can still be the top seed in their bracket after pulling crap like this….yet again. Someone needs to rework the bracket for tournaments!

Jefferson Highschool has about 80 kids in the school and they cant keep track of who has the grades to play sports,I blame the principal and her staff for letting this happen.

It’s amazing how some people can read this article and not understand what it is saying. The OHSSA told the school that the kid was eligible to play this season then later told them he wasn’t. How this is Jefferson fault is beyond me. It appears the OHSSA is failing to take the responsibilty for its’ action and punishing the kid and the school for its’ blunder. By the way Jefferson bet some very good teams this season, so I seriously doubt that any of top seeded D4 schools would really want them in their sectional bracket.

I bet if someone were to check Dunbar team roster you would find that they to have players that are ineligible for one reason or another

I’m in agreement w/4real. People didn’t read the article correctly. This was the fault of OHSAA. It’s like they have a bullseye on Jefferson’s back. The AD for Jefferson did what he was suppose to do & OHSAA didn’t follow procedures or did they set Jefferson up. I’d hate to think that this was the case but it makes you wonder. Hold your head up JT players & good luck in the tournament.

It’s amazing how ridiculously hateful people are.Come On.It’s about the KIDS FIRST!Obviously Jefferson did everthing they needed to do.But, because of this complaint by someone in Dayton that is being paid to take on less important issue than they are really being paid for, the OHAA had to come up with something to make this delay on this kids development look ligitimate by coming up with something addtl.that needed to be done. People stop drinking the haterade and think of the KIDS FIRST! Take your personal vendettas out on the people/persons you have issues with directly and leave the kids and their families that are trying to look out for their best interest alone. Doesn’t it take a village.Let’s stop trying to tear the villages around us down. The future of this world is in THE KIDS not Powerstrung immature adults!Grow up!

Many if you are still misunderstanding the article. Jefferson administrators called the OHSAA and said this is the situation. Would this kid be eligible. The OHSAA said if what you are telling me is correct then yes he is eligible. The article someone from Dayton City schools inquired for the state to do a formal investigation because what was told to the state was not true. The state investigated and found that what the jefferson official asked about was not actually the case. That is why the state found the kid ineligible.

Last comment on this issue. DDN &/or OHSSA would have us believe that JT’S only correspondence on this issue was over the phone with OHSSA. And that OHSSA made a ruling on the kids’ eligiblity based on this information over the phone. You have got to be kidding me. There is no way OHSSA makes decision on a transfer that involves an address over the phone. JT was required to send in the proper paper work to justify the transfer and verify the address was in the JT district, otherwise JT basically is telling on themselves. DDN, I believe you can do a better job of investigative reporting than this.

It’s about the Kids My a—, It’s about cheating. Dayton city Trotwood, Jefferson,Huber Heights place players in homes in the district to make sure they have the best team that recruiting can provide, most of the time It’s not caught sometimes it is. these school districts have practiced this cheating forever.
