Wayne vs. Trotwood-Madison? Maybe in the postseason

No. 1 Wayne vs. No. 2 Trotwood-Madison in a great boys hoops showdown?

“It’s not going to happen,” said Warriors coach Travis Trice on Sunday.

The GWOC rivals both had an extra game to fill when a midseason trek to a one-game Bowling Green, Ky., event by both teams was canceled.

Fans from both schools thought it would be a no-brainer for the teams to play each other, especially since they weren’t ticketed to play during the regular season.

That was the easy part. Not so easy was deciding on the location and date.

Wayne wanted a neutral site and offered to play the game Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday of this week at UD Arena. T-M just said no and instead extended an invite for the Warriors to visit Trotwood this past Saturday.

The only problem is Wayne already had a game scheduled vs. Centerville on Saturday.

Trotwood eventually filled its open date by luring Marshall on Feb. 20.

Complicating the possible Wayne/Trotwood matchup was Sunday’s seed meeting for the upcoming tournament. Wayne, especially, didn’t want to lose a sure No. 1 seed by losing to T-M. That’s why the Warriors wanted to play after Sunday’s meeting.

That was no secret, because Trice said just that two weeks ago to the DDN when the possibility of the game first surfaced. A game at Trotwood on the eve of the seed meeting was never going to happen.

Now, the teams will have to wait until the postseason to get it done.

Wayne (15-2) is the No. 1 seed in the D-I sectional and should blow through Piqua (0-16) and Belmont (1-15) in its first two games.

Trotwood (13-3) is the No. 2 seed and should have just as easy of a time taking out Miamisburg (3-13) and Fairborn (3-14) in its first two tourney games.

Should both teams also pass their district final tests, they eventually could meet in a regional final at UD Arena. However, to do that, both would have to get through the postseason hammer that often ends the D-I tourney trail for area teams: the Greater Cincinnati League’s best.

Why would Trotwood not play Wayne at a neutral site? Why only at Trotwood?

We are talking about high school students here aren’t we? I guess that would explain the childish comments being posted. What difference does a matchup make this late in the game anyway…

Trotwood a bunch of pansies?? Mark Baker didnt go to the Dayton Daily News and say “We would have too much to lose if we played before the draw” I believe Travis “The Recruiter” Trice said that one.. What would it hurt to play a little Trotwood East VS Trotwood West anyway? :)

I would like to say this let the two head coaches play a 1-on-1 game to 13 to clear up all of this crying. I know that coach baker will beat wayne coach with no problem

To me the idea of this game has no excitement. If both were undefeated and potentially the best team in the area then there would be something there, but instead both have racked up easy victories over teams that play at 6th grade level and lost to any team that was good.

The Dayton area high school fans and the tax payers of the districts are the losers in this event. The next time either of these coaches or atheletic directors asks for money they need to be reminded of the lost potential of this major fund raiser!

Trotwood wanted the game, so they should have offered to play the game anywhere. Now that they lost by 20 to Marshall, they aren’t too excited about playing any other team.

Trotwood issued the challenge. They wanted the game. They should have offered to play anywhere, not just in their house. THey just lost to Marshall by 20 points, and they have not pursued with their challenge. They just want to forget it.
