Miami turning away from local, Ohio football recruits
Except for the late recruiting movement involving the Boucher brothers from Alter before football signing day last year, we haven’t heard much from Miami University in local recruiting lately.
The Bouchers, QB Austin and LB Collin, decommitted from Toledo last year when the Rockets made a coaching change. That opened up their recruitment, and they eventually landed with the RedHawks.
Before that, 2007 was the last class to involve a local player signing. But the Miami Valley isn’t alone.
This year, according to Rivals.com, Miami hasd 13 recruits in its class, and only three are from Ohio.
There are as many players from Texas coming to play for the RedHawks as there are from Ohio.
Miami coaches in the past have praised Ohio for producing enough talent to go around to all the college football teams. The RedHawks have also discussed the need to recruit from other parts of the country to find undervalued players.
This year, they took the idea of going out of state very seriously.

It’s always refreshing to know that Ohio’s best PUBLIC Universities increasingly turn their backs on the children who’s parents pay the taxes that fund the same universities.

We recruited Clay Belton and he turned his back on us and left. We’ll take all the good Ohio talent we can find. Sometimes, there just aren’t enough MAC-quality players to go around.

southwest ohio is and always has been a hotbed of football talent.if the redhawks arne’t landing some of these talented players it is because of poor recruiting. plain and simple.

they have abandoned the local guys. with the multitude of talent in butler county alone, not one representative from Miami was at a Middletown practice/game until well after the season had begun. the cradle of coaches is continuing to go away from their own, and the results have shown.

My son has taken two visits to miami, he like the campus and program but will probably take another offer over miami, mostly because they are not recruiting good players form other states. Just take a look at their last few years. The other mac schools will be clad to take the good ohio players and be more successful. Good Luck Miami! Not!

You have to go national if you want to win. The best local players aren’t always going to sign with Miami. Signing A.Boucher was a fluke because most guys would have chosen OSU.

I have to second the Middletown comment. Miami is only less than 20 miles away and they have missed on some good talent in Middletown lately. Coach Haygood will get a chnace to see what he missed since 7 guys over the last 2 years will be across from the Redhawk when they play BGSU over the next 3 years. Go Falcons!

One of the main problems the Redhawks football program has is that most of their new coaches are jerks. They have been extremely rude to parents and kids in the local area. Their main recruiter is from Mass need I say more? I think it is past time for the Redhawk AD to go. He has allowed Coles to stay way too long and when the the younger coaches led the team they did a lot better. He is a good guy but time to go.

I disagree with Peter Wolfe. I have met the entire coaching staff from Miami and none of them are jerks. Also, their main recruiter is not from Mass. So no, you don’t need to say anymore….your comment shows you ignorance.

From what I have heard, the coaches have gone out of Ohio to find speed.
