CJ lineman, receiver getting BCS attention
I had just arrived to Chaminade Julienne High School on Wednesday to visit with coach Andy Helms about his team when Helms’ cell phone rang. It was a coach from the University of Cincinnati football team.
It was the second call he had taken that day, in fact, about offensive lineman Andy Jomantas, and the coach also wanted to hear about Chaminade wide receiver Laron Brown.
Jomantas, a 6-foot-8, 259-pounder, is also getting heavy attention from Kansas and some feelers from Michigan State, Maryland, Kentucky and Indiana. Ohio State has also called, although the Buckeyes are mostly keeping tabs on who else is interested in Jomantas, Helms said.
Brown is a 6-4 receiver who can run 4.4 seconds in the 40-yard dash, and he’s getting plenty of Division I attention as well, Helms said.
The good players are helping. CJ is 5-1 (granted, with the help of a forfeit from Marshall), and the Eagles’ only loss came in overtime against McNicholas. In that game, CJ scored on its possession, but the extra point was called wide. McNicholas then scored and kicked the extra point to win.
CJ travels to Carroll this weekend, but if the Eagles and Alter keep winning, the season’s final week could give us 8-1 CJ against 9-0 Alter, which would potentially be one of the best games of the season.

Go CJ! I hope that both Jomantas and Brown get plenty of attention and offers from the various universities! I hope too that this season finish is a big win against Alter!By The Black Knight

One of the best games the season my a-s-s-s-s. CJ could come in 9-0 and not allowed a point and Alter would beat them by 50. Don’t be surprised if Carroll (not one its better teams in the last few years) knocks off CJ, the most over-frickin rated team in Dayton.By Charles

Well the Black Knight is showing the lack of class Alter students and parents have always shown at baseball games, Cage Classics, etc.. Sportsman like conduct would wish both from CJ (Jomantas I know personally to be a good gentleman) & all players in athletics that their hard work and that of the parent(s) pays off for college. Take a lesson in class Alter.By CJ alumni and current CJ parent

Andy and Laron are both excellent athletes, students, and gentlemen. I’ve had the privilege of watching them grow into young men over the last few years. Laron will probably win a few state track titles in the spring. Andy is also getting major attention from Ball State.By Laron's dad

Well, “Black Knight,” how about caring about more than just football? I know the CJ students and parents have been and will continue to be out there at many different athletic events…football, volleyball, soccer, basketball, etc. When CJ doesn’t have a ‘great’ year, the Eagle Spirit still can’t be beat… GO EAGLES.By Realistic CJ Grad

“no one said anything bad about alter” Really - have you read the Borland article. They continually talk about steriods and how he’s a cheat. At least “Black Knight” didn’t say anything about the individuals in this article. Any article written about Alter becomes a personal attack against the players. Class-less.By T-pat

Amazing, not from here originally. But, played against Alter’s baseball team way back in the 80s and was amazed then what little sportsmanship they showed, when a little farm school beat them 3 in row. Now as a CHS parent, I can’t question their hardwork, dedication & results, but class, definitely not a priority at AHS.By red

And how do you know the comments are coming from Alter people? I’ve been involved with Alter for 30 years, this talk is silly. CJ is an excellent school and so is Alter and Carrol. Alter has had more sports success than CJ by far. If that makes us snobs, that’s a sad conclusion. There are snobs there, but most of the kids and parents are 100% class. Quit doing what you don’t like.By E-A-G-L-E

Red-unless something is getting by me, I don’t see anything in these comments calling Alter snobs. At CJ, the current student body is doing their best to make sure they cheer for CJ, not against the opponent. From the stories of the volleyball game on Thursday between CJ and Alter, it seems like there was no class shown by Alter students and there were no Alter administrators or faculty members that had any intention on stopping it. CJ’s students pride themselves in positive spirit, not putting other schools down. Good job Laron and Andy, keep up the good work Eagles.
