Johnny Vance out after 8 seasons as Trotwood-Madison’s girls basketball coach

Johnny Vance is out after eight seasons as the varsity girls basketball coach at Trotwood-Madison.

Vance said it was a mutual decision between he and AD Jim Ladd.

“When I took that job, we were below the basement,” Vance said. “And there was nothing left in the cupboard. Now, we’ve become a bona fide program from elementary all the way up. I told them the program’s in good hands.”

The Rams were 11-10 last season but tied Vandalia Butler for the GWOC North Division championship at 7-1. T-M also tied Vandalia for the division title in 2006-07.

Vance is a ‘78 Trotwood-Madison grad and probation officer in the Montgomery County juvenile court. He said he might pursue another coaching position, along with a master’s degree.

“I really love the challenge of helping young people,” he said.

“I see young men go to prison every day and women abused. Basketball was a way for me to offset some of the troubles people had. I’m still going to stay around the young people.”

Ladd acknowledged Vance’s contract was not renewed. T-M assistant superintendent Dr. Rexann Wagner said there would be no statement or comment from the school. Details about a job posting or when the school hoped to fill the position were not addressed.

Trootwood lost a good coach. Trotwood parents run the school not school officials. Mark Baker keeps his job for letting his players fight.

Coach Vance, as I have and will always call him was a “GREAT PERSON”, all around. Far as coaching goes he jumped in where one left off, he took on a challenge. Me being apart of the journey he was along while coaching for the Trotwood Girls, can honestly say he WORKED hard. His heart was in it, making sure that his players understood that it’s more to life than “Basketball”. I’m happy I was apart of learning life lessons from such a good role model. R.I.P Latise We Love & MIss you!! GO RAMS……
