Magical 300 for Butler’s Dues

Trent Dues reached the 300-win milestone with Butler’s recent 8-6 win over Fairmont. Highly-respected in coaching circles, Dues has 303 wins in 15 seasons and a winning percentage over 75 percent.

As a rising star, Dues steered the Aviators to the state Division II final four in 1999. His players are a reflection of their coach. Dues is a go-getter who was groomed by several men.

“When Trent played here he was a gamer, the dirtier his uniform, the better,” said Dues college coach Danny Schmitz of Bowling Green State university.”He was our leader, a coach on the field and when there was something that needed to be said, he said it.”

Dues also played for the legendary Lou Brunswick at Coldwater. He combined with his brothers for a rare triple play. That is, all three played on state championship teams their senior year at Coldwater — Trent in 1987, Todd in 1983 and Tony in 1990.

His current team at Butler owns a 6-3 record. The Aviators boasts a strong cast from last year’s district championship team. They have won the conference 11 of the last 14 years. Talk about “Purple Reign”.

No doubt one of the top coaches in the state, and with Dues still be a relatively young guy will have much more success. The transformation he has made of the Butler baseball program is nothing short of amazing. Passion, desire to teach, and the hunger to win run wild in Dues. Great coach, even better man. Congrats Coach Dues.
