Wildcats sweeten swings in Florida

Franklin High School baseball team went 4-1 on its spring trip April 6-10. The Wildcats competed in the Florida Beach Bash at Fort Walton Beach.

Outstanding individual performance awards were earned by Sam Gauze and Dustin Martin. The Wildcats recorded wins over Madison Southern (Ky.) 11-1; Lone Oak, Ky. (5-4), Warren Central, Ky. (8-2) and Corbin, Ky. (5-3).

In the win over Madison Southern, Chris Saporito went 2-for-2 with two home runs and 4 RBIs. Spencer Matthews added a home run and 2 RBIs while Macklin Bray had a 2-for-3 day with 2 RBIs.

Imposing 6-foot-7 southpaw Kyle Blackford picked up two wins and a save on the southern trip.

Coach Matt Kinser hopes the showing will build momentum for a strong start in the Southwestern Buckeye League Southwestern Division.
