The Son Also Rises

Following in your father’s footsteps is never easy. It can be even harder if it’s in the coaching box. Kent Anderson is a chip off the old block.

Anderson was named the head boys basketball coach at Xenia. He recently finished one of the most successful girls seasons at Xenia, guiding the Bucs to a 20-2 season and a Greater Western Ohio Conference South Division crown.

Kent’s dad, Phil, was the boys coach at Xenia for 20 years with an overall record of 271-149, winning almost 65 percent of his games. The elder Anderson won three league titles and three district titles. Kent’s overall record with the girls was 91-35.

“I look forward to the challenge the men’s program presents, and I believe we have a vision for direction this program needs to go,” Anderson said.

Xenia athletic director Kevin Kerr was pleased of Anderson’s appointment: “We are very excited to have someone of Kent’s caliber. We look forward to Kent taking our mens basketball program to the next level. He has very deep Xenia roots and we are confident he will do well.”.
