Princeton crushes Aiken, 78-65, in 1st of two Division I regional semifinals from XU’s Cintas Center

SHUT OUT (2 POINTS, 1 BOARD)

The Princeton Vikings built a comfortable halftime lead and rolled to an easy 78-65 victory over Aiken in the first of two boys basketball Division I semifinals at Xavier University’s Cintas Center on Wednesday night, March 18.

Jordan Siebert (24) and Marquis Horne (23) combined for 47 points as the Vikings improved to 23-1. Orlando Williams added 11 points and Stefon Johnson 10.

Princeton advance to the regional final on Saturday at 11 a.m. at the Cintas Center, home of the Xavier Musketeers.

The Vikings will face the winner of Wednesday night’s second semifinal — Centerville or Cincinnati La Salle — for a berth in the state tournament.

Nick McCoy led Aiken (16-8) with 23 points while Darren Goodson added 19 and Gene Primus 12.

Princeton was never in danger after building a 45-32 halftime lead. The Vikes outscored Aiken the first three quarters (22-19, 23-13 and 17-16). The Falcons’ 17-16 advantage in the fourth was too little too late.

Both teams were outstanding from the floor. Princeton shot 51 percent (26-for-51), while Aiken shot 57.8 (26-for-45).

Princeton won the free-throw battle, 21-12.

The Vikes were poor from the foul line (21 of 37 for 56.8 percent), but the Falcons were worse (12 of 25 for 48 percent).

The biggest shock of the game was the poor performance turned in by Aiken’s Chane Behanon. The consensus No. 1 sophomore in the state scored just two points with one rebound in 26 minutes. He got schooled by the veteran Vikings.
