Wayne’s Minton likes Fairmont’s offense

Wayne High School football coach Jay Minton is perhaps less worried about his offense without Braxton Miller than he is about Fairmont’s offense in general.

While the Warriors defense has been stout much of the season (Trotwood-Madison’s 21 was the high scored against them), Minton sees a Fairmont team with multiple threats.

“I see a bunch of guys playing together, achieving together,” Minton said of Fairmont, which like Wayne is 5-1. “They have some skill guys they’re doing a great job of getting the ball to.”

Fairmont quarterback Marc Pedro is a third-year starter. He hands off to Diondre Person, who is among the GWOC’s leading rushers with 697 yards. At wideout, Brendon Cunningham and Sherman Wilkinson have combined for 42 catches and 752 yards.

And while Wayne was out of sync when Miller went down against Northmont last week, the Warriors have had a full week to prepare Tre Moore and also Shawn Whitehurst.

“Tre was rusty,” Minton said. “He hadn’t (played QB) in a while. The bad thing for us was all of our games have been close where we could’t work anybody else in. That hurts in that situation.”

With Moore playing QB, his defensive time is lessened. Moore was not in the game during Kevin Ringer’s put-it-away touchdown run for Northmont in the Thunderbolts’ 17-7 win.

Minton said Moore will see some time on defense tonight, Oct. 3 and that both Moore and Whitehurst likely will play quarterback.

Person knows he’s a marked man.

“They have a strong linebacker from Beavercreek. He’s real good,” Person said of Cody Smith. “They’re fast. We have to hold on to the ball. It’s going to be a good matchup.”

Wayne must win 2 of it’s last 3 game to make the play offs. I can’t believe they can’t do it. Then Miller should be back and its revenge time. Look out state.
