Ready or not it’s time to start Rockin’ Around the Christmas Tree
There are way more than 12 days ‘til Christmas but starting at noon Thursday you can spend the next 37 or so days singing “Jingle Bells” at the top of your lungs when 99.9 Lite FM switches over to Christmas music 24/7 through the end of the year.
The date for the big switch has varied over the last several years and this year they gave listeners a chance to vote on their web site. They’ve already started playing holiday tunes on the weekends. If you aren’t in their listening area you can listen live on their Web site.
If you think you’re a Christmas music expert, test your Christmas song lyric knowledge with our lyrics quiz.
Do you like the 24/7 Christmas music? Do you think it’s too early or too late?

It is way too early and 24/7 is way too much. As soon as they started playing Christmas music I knew that is all we would hear from now until New Years. Too, too much.

Too late? Not sure why they added that part. But I guess my comment would be if you think it’s too early then don’t listen. Since Thanksgiving and Christmas are so close together I just view it as holiday music. After all isn’t it supposed to make everyone holly and jolly. So just enjoy and don’t make such a big deal out of the timing.

It’s too early in my opinion, and I won’t be listening, but I know some people will be tuning in for their own enjoyment. There is so much depressing stuff in today’s world that if jingle bells or silver bells brings a smile to someone’s face, so be it.

I already started listing to Christmas music on my iPhone this week. I want to get into the spirit and the weather hasn’t helped do that. I turned to music. Now, when is White Christmas on TV? I’m ready!

The wonderful part of our society is the freedom of choice on what we listen to. If you don’t like 24/7 Christmas music, you are free to select from numerous different stations. I applaud 99.9 FM.

It is way too early to switch over. I wish 99.9 Lite FM would wait until after Thanksgiving. I can not listen to 99.9 when I am at work so I have to change radio stations.

The bird brain manager that approved this decision should be fired. Its way too early and they will lose listeners.

An open letter to all of the advertisers on WLQT-FM… hear you again in January… By Thanksgiving, I’ll have gotten over even pushing the button on the car radio by mistake.

Open letter to advertisers at WLQT-FM. I’ll hear your ads again in January. Till then, I’ll jump over that button on my car radio as I did last year.

If Lite 99 didnt play the same songs over and over again it wouldnt be so bad but its the same songs over and over again. I know there are more songs out there they can play. I loaded my IPOD last week with Christmas music.

1) its wayy to early to start playing christmas music because thanksgiving hasnt even came. Americans don’t think about Thanksgiving as much as they did in the past. The only meaning now is “after I get fat from turkey I can go shopping for Christmas”. I’m 15 and I still love christmas but I don’t need to be thinking about it until the first of December. 2) There really isn’t that much Christmas music to be played, most songs would be re-played throughout the day. So there comes a time when it just gets soo annoying that I want to pull my hair out. In my opinion its wayyyy to early, How about waiting till after Turkey season? Hoping that would not be much of a burden on Dayton but we all need to Thank God for what he has given us, (even if its the chance to sing Jingle Bells 2 weeks early). Concluding my opinion I think Dayton should wait a week!!

I think it’s a little early. I always thought Thanksgiving day was the starting point. That’s when Santa comes to town on the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade float. Maybe America needs some cheer a little earlier then usual. I’ll tune in to 99.9 via the internet. I like Christmas music.

I am with the others that note that while it may be a little too early, if it can bring a little cheer to someone in this over connected world, than I am all for it.

I think it is great! We need more Christmas cheer! If you don’t want to listen to it then switch stations. There is nothing wrong with the rest of us wanting to listen a little early. From those of us that love everything to do with Christmas I say THANK YOU 99.9!!!

Glad you identified the station so I will avoid it. What happened to waiting til after Thanksgiving to start Christmas. Takes the fun out of Thanksgiving - a day to be thankful for what you have and share with others.

You’re right…those of us who don’t want to listen to this yet don’t have to listen. We also don’t have to patronize any of the businesses whose ads we will be missing by not listening.

Kathy, So you’re saying that by 99.9 playing Christmas music early…it takes the fun out of Thanksgiving and we are then somehow unable to be thankful for what we have and share with others…Wow! it’s only Christmas music. Do your family a favor and don’t involve yourself with any Thanksgiving festivities. I sure wouldn’t want to be around you.

I think the problem lies, not in the starting of holiday music now, but in the rotation. Lite 99.9 has the same problem January-November: They play the same 42 songs over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over again. And then when the holidays come, they play the same holiday songs over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over again. I’d go crazy working there. How much Peter Cetera and Anne Murry can someone possibly take?? The only time I tune into 99.9 is during the holidays and even then, it’s in short bursts.

What? They started it last week. It’s way too early & it gets boring & repetitious. Won’t be listening to 99.9 until after the holidays…again.

I LISTENED TO 99.9 EVERYDAY DRIVING TO AND FROM WORK. THEY WERE ON MY SPEED DIAL UNTIL TODAY. CHRISTMAS MUSIC IS GREAT ON CHRISTMAS DAY. THERE ARE PLENTY OF OTHER STATIONS TO LISTEN TO WHO CARE ABOUT THEIR LOYAL LISTENERS.

I am impressed they have lasted this long without starting it. But, I am very happy to hear they will keep it until the New Year. It’s sad that Christmas seems to ends December 26, even though there are 12 days to Christmas starting Christmas day. I know many people still have Christmas celebrations past December 25.
