Ross Middle School LEGO Teams Advance to State Competition

Four Ross Middle School teams were among a total of 31 local LEGO League teams competing at the Thunderhawk Regional FIRST LEGO League Competition last weekend, Dec. 5.

Teams were judged on their robot design and programming, teamwork, and research project. Smart Move was the challenge for this year’s competition. The teams were required to identify a transportation problem that impacts their community and develop an innovative solution for this problem. Teams also competed by performing missions with their robots on a playing field.

The RMS LEGO Busters received the Creative Presentation Award for their research project on airport runway incursions. LEGO Busters also won the Robot Game Elimination Finalist Award, and earned the highest score of the tournament, 345 of 400 possible points, on the robot game.

The Metal Chihuahuas received the Innovative Solution Award for their research project on the use of geothermal heating to melt snow and ice on roadways.

The Judges Award for Team Unity went to RossTechnix.

Team SpongeBot LEGOparts also represented RMS at the competition.

Two RMS teams, the LEGO Busters and the Metal Chihuahuas, will advance to the Ohio FLL State Championship Tournament at Wright State’s Nutter Center on February 6 and 7.
