Flyers lose third consecutive game
Duquesne shot 61 percent in the first half and 52 for the game in sending Dayton to an 83-73 setback, the Flyers’ third straight loss.
B.J. Monteiro scored 20 points for the winners. Kevin Dillard had 22 points and seven assists, and Matt Kavanaugh had 17 points and six rebounds for UD (14-8, 4-4 Atlantic 10).
Trailing by as many as 16 in the first half, the Flyers made the last basket of the period and went on an 11-3 run to start the second half to shave the deficit to one.
They took their first lead in more than 25 minutes at 57-55 on a pair of Chris Johnson free throws with 10:09 to go.
They rallied by producing what they’ve been lacking for most of their last three games: defensive stops. The Dukes failed to score on 14 of 16 possessions to start the second half.
But the Flyers reverted to their meek and mild ways on defense again.
Leading by one, the Dukes (13-9, 4-4) went on an 11-2 surge to take control. They found an opening for a dunk, turned a Paul Williams turnover into a bucket and scored again when T.J. McConnell, who is second in the nation in steals, intercepted a pass and went coast to coast for a lay-up.
Andre Marhold slipped inside for two. And when Monteiro swished a 3, the Dukes had a 71-61 lead with 5:30 left. The Flyers didn’t get closer than five after that.

Was fun watching them overachieve but alas the season has caught up with them. Now 4 of 5 on the road and things look dim.

X wins on road UD loses at home. Looks like UD will not even make the NIT this year. Not much hope for at least the next two years.

Mr Lunardi, didn’t Valpo from the Horizon League hammer Duquesne by 20 points? Duquesne is not that great, right? Shouldn’t a loss to Duquesne on our home court hurt our seeding?

UD is a lock for the NCAA, locked out of the NCAA that is. I hear they are going to get a CBA bid to play Wright State at Sinclair.

20% of the time when DO or PW put the ball on the floor something good happens. 80% of the time when DO or PW put the ball on the floor something bad happens. So when will the coach finally tell those two guys to pass the ball when they get it and not to put it on the floor?

Oh well, the team and coach could join the circus when it’s in town in April. The coach could be the sweaty yelling ring master. The real joke is on the poor stupid fans who actually spend money, time and get invested in the losers. They must have really empty lives to follow the downhill slide like cattle, every year.

And here we are…the geniuses are back on the blog…I think I actually liked it better when DDN shut it down. This team is right about where it was going to be…just took a different route to get there. Let’s not forget that everyone wrote off Kav, Hill, DO and now they are being asked to play vital roles. No JB and Paul is regressing…not making excuses but 14-8 feels about right for the talent on this team. 20 wins would be a pretty good accomplishment for these guys.

The lack of depth on the bench is finally showing up. The guys looked gassed at the end of the game.

As the university of Dayton grows in size and the city itself shrinks, morons. Like OSU Joe fell left out. Joe and all the other negative bloggers have seen the success of UD grads and it kills them, because they still live in their parents’ basement..kinda sad

Kurt, Spot on….They’re asking 4 guys who hardly got off the pine last year , due to defense, and the french kid, who probably does not even get a scholly in normal times, to do that exact same thing this year but at significant minutes….. You have only 1-2 guys on the entire team who actually can dribble the ball at a level above high school play, as well…This entire team we can thank for the idiot who previously coached them, who could barely play .500 ball in A10 plays for 8 years. Archie has done a tremendous job just to get to this point but the last 3 teams, who have excellent coaches, just exposed every weakness on the UD team..

Game tied 55 55 then the new guy pulls starters, UD has RH, DO, Frenchie, JP and PW on the floor,Dukes go on a run game over. Then last 2 minutes when a 3 is needed Luke is on the bench. Some of you experts who did not like an average of 22 wins per season and post season about every year, are you happy now? ps and the 2-3 drives by PW were soooooo weak: terrible

We shouldn’t be surprised AM is being outcoached. Look at his experience compared to the coaches he is up against. He will learn but I wouldn’t expect much in the next three years. Recruiting was really hurt by BG the last few years and the results have lowered the UD program to a level that is hard to get the star recruits. Kind of a no win cycle, the worse your record the harder it is to attract top flight recruits and so the cycle continues. UD will be lucky to finish 500 this season. No NCAA or NIT bid. If you were a star recruit would you want to enter a program like that??????

Looks like Juwan staten and his father are the smart ones. Can’t blame the heach coach Phil Jackson could not win with this team, and things will not be better next year.
