Dayton in Lunardi’s bracket today

After a win over Xavier, Dayton has climbed to a No. 9 seed in Joe Lunardi’s NCAA tournament mock bracket at ESPN.com today. The Flyers were a 10 seed last week.

There are four Atlantic 10 teams currently among the 68 teams in the bracket, which is based on how the NCAA tourney field would look if the season ended after last weekend’s games.

This makes for some fun prognosticating, but it’s a pretty useless exercise with so much of the conference schedule left to go. But the overall recognition for UD and the A10 is nice to see.

They have beaten Xavier, Temple and St. Louis. At the moment they are the best team in the A-10. They did have some horrible losses to Miami and Buffalo which will eventually hurt them with the tournament committee, but right now, they deserve to be in the dance. Who would have thought this when the season started? Go Flyers!!!

I agree, the RPI, the bracket projections, the rankings, none of this matters at all until the Sunday they announce the brackets. It should also be noted that the reason “DAYTON” is in all caps in the bracket is because we are currently in 1st place in the A-10. Thus, by Lunardi’s rules we have to be in. Knowing how Joe normally treats the Flyers, I’m not sure we’d be in there if we were not the current “champion” by the rules of his bracket. Here’s to hoping we finish 13-3 or so in conference and win the tournament so the only argument is over whether we should be a 4 or a 5 seed.

What Coach Miller has done with this group of overachievers is truly remarkable. I don’t care what happen the rest of the way, I love this team!

The results this year just show what an inept coach Brian Gregory was. You only have to look at his current record at GT and the talent lost last year to graduation with the talent this year to see how bad a coach he really is. Don’t know what GT was thinking, just glad he is gone.

BG’s record is 8-11. Thank you for leaving and giving us Archie. What an unbelievable job he has done.

GT was 13-18 last season AND their starting PG left early and went in the 1st round of the draft. BG didn’t exactly walk into a great situation. He’ll be fine, wait and see. He did alot for UD and while I too am happy we have Archie and it seems the arrow is pointed way up, I just don’t get why people won’t just let the BG stuff die. He’s gone. At this point if you’re still complaining about him, you just like to read your own posts.

The reason BG haters bring him up is because now that we have a coach who teaches, instills confidence in his players, and actually coaches we like to remind the BG lovers how inept he really was as a coach. If he was still here Kav and Ralph Hill would still be on the bench and the team would still be shooting around 66% from the foul line. I read the other day that someone said that BG under taught and over coached. How true that is.

I probably criticized BG’s coaching ability as much, or more than anyone, but I do think that it is time to stop talking about him. We have a new coach, and a new team to be excited about and BG is probably getting enough flak from the Georgia Tech fans. Let’s just be glad that they have him and we don’t.

I agree we should let the BG stuff go… but UD’s success this year does make you wonder what was going on last year. As my son very smartly pointed out, it’s like the 49ers — bring in a GOOD new coach with essentially the same players, and good things happen!
